Just came in from banding the 5 pack who just arrived, dumped their pool and water buckets and refreshed. Checked genders while putting on the temp velcro leg bands, 5 girls, not a gander in the bunch.

They are beautiful! You must have a buff gander already though, right?

Is that one you thought was a gander, an older female? She seems a lot more developed than the others.

aoxa, not much is known on these since they came out of California. The biggest is much more developed yes. We have 1 - 2012 hatched buff gander, so now we are in a female overload of girls until we can find additional ganders. Oddly enough having a hard time locating ganders. lol

Isn't that odd? I found possible females for sale closer to home than a gander!

I hope you find one. That one boy is living the dream

lol yeah he is. Thinking we wont be finding one anytime soon though. Not picky either grey or buff, but BOY is a must lol. These girls with no gander will se tus way back, since I sold off sebbie breeders to make room for them. We do have one more set due to ship here on 10/15, supposed to be an adult male/female pair. So that will at least be two ganders on property when they arrive.

How many females can one male handle realistically? I really hope that second shipment works out. Those ones are buff as well, or grey?

How is your experience with this breed and temperament in the males? I've been reading about aggressive ganders lately, and since I'm getting a gander shortly, I was curious.

2 realistically maybe 3, but with low fertility issues lower ratios is better.

These are our first dewlaps, but they are a calm/quiet breed like the sebastopols and those ganders are all bluff. We have 1 gander during breeding season I watch a little more. Its all about common sense when dealing with them. Dont corner, dont turn your back (during breeding season) and walk with a purpose around them.
