I found my first Toulouse egg today.
It is amazing how they can bury their eggs. You look and think "no eggs today" then begin to stir up the bedding where it looks like they might have tried building a nest, and 6 eggs! Last season we had a really big nest built and by the time we tore it down we found 18 eggs. Then they did it again and we let them sit. We ended up with 8 goslings.I found 3 buried deep in bedding sneaky girls![]()
Oh do I remember that jtn. what fun. although gosling are just the most precious and I'd love to have some[all girls] I know if I let mine sit I will get more ganders, nope 2 is enough for me.It is amazing how they can bury their eggs. In the last week, from last Tuesday to today, our 5 females produced 19 eggs. The eggs are now on their way to the Senior Center in town for omelets for breakfast. Funny, they don't know they are goose eggs and comment how delicious they are. Silly old coots, if they knew they were goose eggs they would choke. (Before anyone says anything, I am a silly old coot myself, I just don't have breakfast at the senior center.)
And, even though the season seems to have begun early, it has only just begun. At this rate, it they continue, we will have between 10 and 20 eggs a week from them.Well I guess I am an old cootess then and thankfully still eating goose eggs at home, actually they taste more like chicken eggs to me . I can get my dh to eat goose eggs he won't touch a duck egg.![]()
That is alot of eggs 19 wow.
serv where there's a will there's a way.Speaking of finding eggs in bedding I found seven eggs today deep in the straw in a place I thought they would never managed to get up on or in this case fly up on. It has to be the greylag crosses I have but I can't let them brood because I need to sell them.![]()
I had a sneaky feeling they were laying since they are always first to lay.
