My gander is so possessive of his mate right now, with you saying they aren't staying together makes me wonder if you do have 2 females. Have seen them mating?

@equustears you very well may have 2 females. My gander walks so close to his mate he is almost touching her and if they do stop he is touching her with his bill. I am thinking if you had a pair you'd be seeing something very similar.Hi Miss Lydia
No ,I haven't seen them mating . What I have noticed is that they don't even graze together now.
I'd give the one who hasn't laid yet till end of March. Surely by then there would be an egg.I have to agree. I was thinking if the one was gander it wouldn't be away from the other one. Guess once the other one starts laying , I'll go on the hunt for a sweet gander that's been raised in a family friendly flock, or gaggle as it is.
If I purchased 2 sexed goslings do you think they would be accepted by the ladies when they're grown?
I would have to keep babies separate for most of the summer , correct???
Ughhhh .
Quote: Use the "see don't touch" method to introduce, every goose is different. a simple fence is enough to prevent injury. I have one hen that's went broody but never hatched on her own, and hates goslings with a passion! My buff pair actually took in 4 orphaned canadian goose babies, and raised them. The geese flew off after they reached adulthood. Mixing adults goes about the same, you just don't know how they will react.
Help help
My goose started laying , first time ever, 5 days ago.
Beautiful eggs for 3 days then yesterday no egg as of 6 pm when I put them in goose house for the night.
This morning I have 2 eggs - not in nest - and no shell only leathery skin almost transparent.
I attached a picture.
I'm assuming they need calcium but they have been eating matsuri waterfowl so I would think it had everything ?????
I bought oyster shell grit today ( they had the granite grit prior) and chicken layer pellets. Which they now have both in their house. I also feed spring mix greens to them everyday that the ground is snow covered.
What am I doing wrong. !!!!!....
I'm so afraid one of these soft eggs will break inside of my goose and she'll die .
What do I do , please help us.![]()
Thank you everyone , so much , for all the advice.
Haven't seen an egg today . Guess it's a waiting game now . I'll let you all know what the next egg looks like and keep hoping for the other goose to start.
We have bitter cold here , they immediately sit on their feet when they leave the goose house so I confined them for last couple days. Winter storm warnings issued for the next 2 days with 8-12 inches of snow .
Seems like everything is going to hades in a hand basket. I'll be glad when winter is gone
For sure? Not sure on the parasites but the oyster shell should help with calcium. I do worm my water fowl 1X a year in late fall according to @RURU Rec.They either need calcium or have internal parasites and need worming!
