Toulouse Geese Thread

I agree. Keep them together. Love will win out.

Trina has to still understand she is a goose!

Well no budding love just yet, but I think >I< am winning Pom over, he doesn't struggle when held, lets me catch him, and occasionally lets me pet him when I bring him lettuce =) DH however is not, Pom absolutely hates him and hisses and tries to bite his feet every time he sees him! It's actually hilarious because Pom is so shy, so he is very slow and reluctant but once he gets started DH almost has to run from him - Pom NEVER runs, he only casually waddles, so it's easy to run away, or to run to catch him. He's turning out to be quite a character!

Having Trina inside is a little different than having her outside. Inside she would usually go sleep in her corner on her own, I would just close her up in her crate or corner so she couldn't get into things in the night. Only occasionally would I need to direct her to her spot for the night.
How does this work with outside geese? Do they go to their goose house like chickens return to their coop?
Neither of them return to their goose house at night, both have to be ushered - usually caught and carried to the door, once pointed to the door they go right in without a fuss, but will they ever learn where they sleep? Or will they ALWAYS have to be PUT in their house at night? I'd love to just let them sleep where they want, but I just don't think that would be safe.

Oh if only they would put themselves up like the chickens and actually like the ducks. But nope I have a long mop handle and I start walking behind mine and use the handle to get them going to their house since it's in the open but once started in the right direction Sam takes the lead and goes in with Missy right on his heels. Sounds like Pom is a sweet heart and not un common for geese especially ganders not to like men, and not knowing his back ground maybe had a bad experience with one. But my goodness picking him up and petting him is a big accomplishment, I can do a head rub on my gander if I'm fast LOL Now when mating season comes your going to see a whole new ball game. But your right in thinking they shouldn't sleep where ever they want, put them up safely in their house every evening. Love will come probably around December or Jan. when Trina reaches sexual maturity she's going to be throwing her self at Pom. yep!

LOL well I'm glad someone told me! Here I was expecting that after a few days or weeks of routine they would go to BED when they are tired! Dorky geese! More and more like toddlers every day.. Good thing I love the crap outta them lol
Besides how gorgeous he is, his people friendliness was what really drew me to him. At the rescue one of the foster moms was catching different birds to bring into a pen for Trina's "speed dates" and WOW how she had to chase, corner, lung for, and drag them out! Flapping and screaming and kicking trying to bite and fighting her with their wings, one even popped her in the mouth pretty good. That was the biggest shocker of all. Trina will run her little feet in protest of being picked up sometimes and always start to run before she hits the ground when I set her down, but I always thought that was the "animal" in her LOL I can imagine I looked like a deer in headlights while she caught that first bird.
It makes sense though, they are big wild birds that big things probably want to eat! I would scream and kick too. Pom is so chill... And of course I'll never love a goose quite like I do Trina.
I'l be prepared for mating season, though it will make me sad to spend less (or no) time cuddling!

Are these dewlap Toulouse
Wow what pretty geese! And I'm always in awe of great green yards! My! How pretty!
One day I will convince DH to leave the desert... lol

I always envy lush greens pastures too. living on the side of a mountain I love it but it has it's draw back for a lush lawn. ...you have been blessed to have found such a mild mannered gander. It will work out just give them time.
