Toulouse Geese Thread

Haha, he´s having a wonderful time! It won´t hurt him, it´s only straw after all...
Kid in a candy store!
Goose in a hay barn....?
Lol
He's getting naughty. This morning the dog slipped out the door without me noticing and I opened Pom's door and he SHOT for the little dog and bit him 4 times hard and fast. Oh he was ******. Poor dog. Cowered in the corner looking at me like "I'm SO SORRY!!! I'll never leave the house again! PLEASE SAVE ME!" Wimpiest dog I've ever met lol. Then Pom turned around and decided >I< looked like a good opponent. No way ho-zay! *THWACK* and back to his fodder went he lol

He's a good boy most of the time with me, but he's starting to get comfy in his alpha goose position I think. I do love my two gooseys!
I love the noises they make! I had some extra time so I lounged outside reading my book in the sun just listening to my 2 geese make their cute honking back and forth, they have some of the greatest noises!

Sounds like he´s feeling his feet a bit now, poor little dog...but at least you know the geese are safe with him! I´ve just got in from watching my newest week-old babies splash about with mum in the pool....so wonderful just watching them, and the oldest goslings are now stating to make grown-up noises which seem to take them by surprise sometimes...so funny. so pleased you´re enjoying them so much...

I just had to share this picture. Herdie is my guard goose, but I never expected him to chase off the moose! Of course, it only worked once... now the moose sleep right next to him (other side of the fence), and he does NOT like it one bit! Poor guy... that's part of life in Alaska! LOL

Aww poor Herdie but what an awesome sight, I dreamed once I had a baby moose and I live in NC, what a sight that would have been.

I think so! I'm glad he is feeling more at home. It's good to know he is comfortable and hopefully happy here. I do think if left alone together the dog would bite back, but with me there he knows he would get a good slap if he bit the goose, he gave him a look after the first bite but soon switched to pure fear. Still, poor dog, lol.
He didn't learn his lesson though, went shooting out the door again today! Took one look at that goose and whipped right around though HA.
Oh I love watching animals grow up! They are so unsure of themselves! I'm enjoying watching some young serama roosters come into themselves right now and it's a hoot. I bet those silly
young goslings are a real riot.

What a great photo!
But poor Herdie! I think Pom would be right there with him, very upset! LOL
How fun that looks though!

I think Pom must have gotten the same memo that Sam got or maybe he's sending them out, hear yea all ganders it's time to show your stuff, Sam is beginning to be a real stink butt, and he learned the hard way not to bite a dog, one of ours finally had enough and turned around and grabbed him by the neck, thank goodness I was right there. Then another time he came to the back door for his snack and same dog grabbed him through the dog door and took many feathers off of his chest. After that we went back to serious training for dog and geese. Sounds like Trina and Pom are now an item

I wonder....
How old is Sam? Could it be an age thing? Pom is 3 this mating season according to the rescue.
I'm not sure if they are really an item yet or not. They definitely hang out together most of the day, but not ALL the time. Pom lets Trina use his pile of straw as her lounging spot, and splash in "his" pool, but he doesn't let her eat or have any treats - if he sees her he comes running and nips at her to scare her away, although he doesn't hover, once she is scared away he leaves and she eventually sneaks back and gets her fill so she doesn't starve or anything. They don't snuggle or anything, and they don't sleep together.

Oh wow! That sounds bad!!!
How do you even go about training everyone without any animals getting hurt?
Or do some get hurt in the process?

I can just imagine the dog doing a double-take!

It reminded me of the other day, I was fixing a fence down in the marshy bit, and two cavies (guinea-pigs, they´re native here, live in the wild) were chuntering along, muttering to each other as they trotted along the fence...and then they discovered I was stood there...".STOP!!" They froze, looked, chuntered a bit more as if to say "OK, Bert, what now...giant ahead!" "Left turn, look sharp", and off they trotted through the fence on the other side, the only thing I could see was the grass moving as they marched on through. Animals are great.
I used to have a tom turkey that had a set-to with a guam here. I filmed it, and still laugh now when I see it.. One little chick today got separated from the chicken, and the guam was following it...it´s a smart chick, went over to the geese, the guams don´t mess with the geese...

As for the goslings....dear little things. They do diving acrobatics in their cat-litter-tray ´pool´, all of them together, they kick out so much water! Then they get bigger and learn that they can bully the other birds...until one bird´s had enough, and sends it packing, and then what a noise!! And dad comes along and sorts it all out. I´m often down there with my birds laughing out loud at their antics...can´t imagine not having them. And then there are the ducklings...so cute too!
