Toulouse Geese Thread

I'm in the desert, and its actually sort of freaky warm right now, high 70s during the day, low 60s at night. But the goose recur that Pom came from said theirs start laying as early as October and go through about March - that's when it starts to get unbearably hot, hitting up in the 90s and peaks over 100.

I've been telling myself she's really young so may not lay this year, but this behavior is giving me be hope!
Even if she doesn't, I'm just SO glad they are happy with each other and that all is well. They are so pretty and such a joy to have!

I witnessed Pom and Trina mating today.
Poor Pom, he climbed on backwards and mated with her head LOL

Is it ok for them to be mating if Trina isn't laying yet?
Trina totally started it! She ran over and dove into their tub, then swam around him yanking on his butt and tail feathers until Pom started trying to climb on top of her.
I keep checking for eggs but I can't find any. I really doubt she could find a place to hide them, there isn't really anywhere for them to go that isn't easily visible.

poor Pom Trina will teach him though , and last year they Mated first then the eggs came. about 2-3 weeks after mating started,.

You'll probably be able to tell when Trina is getting ready to start laying. You'll see her building the nest, and it's a several hours long process. My gander also paces outside of the coop the entire time my goose is inside actively laying, like an expectant daddy at the hospital! Make sure she has plenty of dry bedding in a quiet spot. The nice thing about geese is that they are large enough that they build a big nest..... hard to miss it!

He's so cute but kinda clueless ha. I guess that's what comes from being at the bottom of the flock for so long! He IS over 3 after all. It's fun to watch them together. It's switched from Trina following him everywhere to Pom following Trina! She will pick a nice warm spot in the sun and settle down in her big fluffy relaxed sitting and Pom will pace around her chattering while Trina just relaxes and sometimes takes a nice nap.

They have a childrens playhouse that I keep lots of fresh straw in for them. I rarely see Trina in the house, but Pom will make a little nest and sit in there half the day! He's adorable when he's not charging haha.

I'm thinking when Trina gets ready to lay she'll use the house[if she can get Pom out] lol Missy goes into her and Sammy's house to lay her eggs, or she did last year so hopefully she will this year,

I sure hope so, it's the most protected area. I refilled their water tub and spent an hour or so watching them. Trina picks up rocks between grape and golfball size within reach of her tub while she she floats in it and deposits them in her water tub... Any idea why she does this? It cracks me up every day I empty the tub and there are a ton of rocks at the bottom! Dorky goose.

Sounds like you´ll be getting eggs soon! The ganders often try to choose a nest-site for the goose, but she´s the one to decide. It´d be good if she goes for the little house...One of my ganders helps to incubate the eggs, too...

Missy does this too, and when she is walking around she'll take things that are laying on the ground leaves twigs and such and gather them at her feet like she is thinking nest. But what unuaual is last year they were already mating and she laid her first egg on Jan 31, so far this year no mating[well except for Sammy and the duck] we also had a warm spell last year and they had pool water this year it's way to cold for pool water could that be what it is? Although on not so frigid nights when I'm cleaning up I give them a shallow pan to play and wash in and Sam always hogs it, Missy never gets a chance to get in it. I guess he never heard of ladies first.
