Toulouse Geese Thread

Very cute! I love seeing all of the babies!

I haven't been on here to post for a long while. About 2 months ago a coyote stole my gander. I was so sad. I miss his good mornings squacks every day. Our goose that is left is not nearly as friendly. She stays a healthy distance and is not nearly as vocal to tell me what she wants. I was looking for hatching eggs and didn't find any, and then watched the feed store for babies, but had no luck there either. I might just rehome the goose and the duck and retreat from my waterfowl adventure.
Oh, that´s sad. Your gander was probably protecting his goose from the coyote, too.

What a shame you´ve not managed to find any youngsters for her. If there´s someone around who has geese, then they may have babies too. Why not advertise for some? Can you put up a 'wanted' sign in the feedstore? Geese are so lovely.

I agree with livin, Loghousemom, why not try to find an adult gander, petfinder and other rescues may have one. So very sorry for the loss of your gander. Craigs list too maybe a source too. Your poor goose I bet she is very lonely without her mate.

I agree he was trying to protect the goose. He was such a good boy! I miss him. Chores are just not the same without him.

I did ask around. I found someone who as some buff ones. I was excited because they said it was a trio, but when I Asked how many eggs they had gotten this year and they said they have had them for 3 years and no eggs. So I assume those were all males. They wanted them to all go together. I didn't think that would work out so well for me since I only have the one house for them to live in right now. I am going to keep looking for a little while longer and if I have no luck I will likely find a new home for my lady and maybe try to just order some from somewhere online next spring.

you should ask around on your state thread in the "where am I where are you" subforum. I hope you find one for your girl.

I have 3 Toulouse goose eggs in the incubator at present. It is Day 14 and I am not at all sure about what I am seeing with the candling. Egg 1: Thought it was doing well, saw dark spot, which I don't see anymore. It continues to get darker inside but I don't see clear veins and at the small end I can see large slow moving darkish red globules when I rotate the egg slowly.
Eggs 2 & 3: had lots of doubts since the start; no clear veins but the mass is getting darker inside, they don't look clear all the way through.

Am I just seeing the yolk "cooking"? The air holes continue to look right. Well developed, growing slightly larger...

Thanks for any insight you can offer.

Would love it if you could post some photos of goose egg candling with typical problems (not just clear).

we have coyote here as well as owls and eagles. my babies come out only when I can spend the time with them while they play. they follow me everywhere. if I get to far in front of them they try to run to catch up but they trip over their feet an sometimes fall, they are so funny to watch.

I had an eagle watching them yesterday my ducks and chickens were all on guard. I think he had his eye on my babies so I scooped them up and put them back in the barn. they grow so fast they are the size of my grown ducks and only 4 weeks old. I am short and have all I can do to grab them both up because they are so big. I usually just them follow but I really thought that eagle was up to no good so I didn't even thing I just scooped and they are more than willing to let me carry them so all was good. I worry a little about when they are older and out without me. I am hoping putting them out late and in the barn early will help. again, so sorry about your gander.
