Toulouse Geese Thread

are geese like ducks and need water if they have food available? So if they remove the water, they should also remove food at night?
Remove the feed, yes. I didn´t imagine anyone would give them feed at night. They don´t need to eat or drink at night. Although mine (free-range) tend to keep one eye open all night, and even wander about at times, they don´t really eat much, if anything, so if they´re shut in at night, it´s much easier to leave them with no food or water, then give it to them in the morning. They´re fine like this.

I need help with my two toulouse geese. They are under a year old (will be a year in july) and are starting to fight. I dont know the genders. today i walked out and thy had there necks locked biting each other. I at first thought it could be mating but they didnt stop. I had to break them apart with a broom. And again tonight when i went to lock them up it happened again. Is geese mating anything like ducks? I separated them for tonight but dont know what to do. please help.

2 males. You could get two females, which would help, or just keep these two separate during the breeding season, then they should settle down again later.

Thank you! How long would I need to keep them separate? I separated them last night and they went crazy, honking and running around flapping their wings. I also don't have a place to keep them separate right now because I have batches of ducklings and chicks in all my spare fenced in areas.

Mating season for most of us is over end of may into June depends on when mating season starts in your neck of the woods. here it was Feb. Most ganders will get along great as long as there are no geese to fight over. What happens if you let them duke it out till they establish who is boss, do you think one or both would be seriously injured?

I let them back together today and when I was watering them they started again and I let it go. Then one got loose and ran into the garden. I don't think they will hurt each other but I am not sure. My ducks just started to mate.

Geese are totally different in their mating season it usually starts in late winter and runs through spring, ducks mate all through summer into early fall. I let most of my drakes duke it out and usually one will have enough and run off with the drake in hot pursuit just to hold the drake down for a few minutes like he's telling him he is the boss now. Hopefully your boys will settle down soon.

Although some say that two males will be fine together, it really depends on the males. the problems come when one male wants to mount the other, and, of course, the other doesn´t wish to be mounted, thank you very much! So, the fights come because neither will back down like a female would. Ideally you could find someone who has females, but wants a male, so do a swap, or get two females for them. Depending on your ganders, one of them could get quite badly hurt...or not. If they´re equally matched, they could fight more. If one is less dominant, as long as he has space to escape to, he´ll run off when he feels he´s beaten.
