Toulouse Geese Thread

Does anyone know if a hatchery will ship so late in the year (the geese not the ducks)
I am guessing that if they have what you want and you are willing to pay what they ask plus shipping that they will ship at any time of the year. However, take into consideration the temperatures where you are, where they are and at all points in between. Would you consider it safe to ship your birds? Some hatcheries will not ship at all in the heat because they can not cool the birds while they will ship in the winter months because they can do things to provide heat.

My toulouse is a year and a half old male. I don't know how to explain his condition other than to say he has only one well developed butt cheek. He just started collapsing and I noticed when he walks his left leg, the one with no butt cheek, seems to be turned inwards. Any ideas or solutions or suggestions?? Thanks very much.

I think we need a picture. do you mean lobes that are down under his body between his legs? or back behind where he poops.

I guess it would be the lobes. Here is a pic. Thanks again for looking.
So at one time he had 2 and one has disappeared ? reason asking is my gander who is 7yrs old use to have 2 lobes and both have vanished. I think it's best to keep an eye on both of them to see if when fall gets here and they begin to put on weight for winter that we may see them return. My Toulouse/Buff goose who is 3months old only has 1 lobe right now also. Other than that i just don't know. Hopefully someone with a Toulouse gander about your boys age will also weigh in. As far as his leg does he favor it at all? maybe it does have something to do with being kind of off balance? or maybe it was there all the time and you just didn't notice because of the lobe being there. I don't think anything is wrong as long as he is eating good and acting normal[well as normal as a gander can act]

Welcome to BYC!

Thanks Lydia :) Not sure he ever had two. Just recently he has started favoring it. He has actually collapsed in tall grass and allowed me to pick him up which he has never done before. Except when they were very small :)

I'd say time to put him where he can have a few days rest and you can evaluate him, watch how well he is eating for one thing. Give him some pool time that's one way to take pressure off his legs. and keep the muscles fit. What all do they eat? lots of grass?Check the bottom of his feet make sure there isn't something going on there. Feel for swelling or unusual heat in the leg. might be a vitamin def. they can get low on niacin and cause lameness. Which can be helped by adding Brewers yeast to their feed or water. How does his eyes look, you can tell alot by looking at their eyes. I'd also get a super B complex vitamin and begin adding some to their food or water. the B's are great for helping if it's a nutritional def. Maybe able to find it in liquid form and be easier to use.

SUBSCRIBE ME!! I plan on getting some geese in the spring, but haven't made up my mind yet between Toulouse or Embdens, From what I've seen at most hatcheries, they say they have "production" Toulouse, that don't get as large as pure Toulouse?
