Toulouse Geese Thread

I was sitting outside eating some left over pork roast the other day and everyone of my scovy's and chickens had to have a taste they love meat. Mine love bread but it's only on occasion they get any. I don't eat it so I rarely buy it. Mine even love dog kibble and have to have some every morning. Opie will even eat canned dog food off a spoon.
Meal worms are def a very special treat.  :) and water melon yours won't eat water melon? I just wish it was cheaper last year they only got it 2X because of the price.
I've tried giving them watermelon. They won't eat it. I'm probably gonna get nasty comments from chicken lovers for this. I was carrying a KFC box with some eaten legs in it out to the garbage. One of my girls must have thought it was her mealworm treats or something because she came up to me and raised her head up to me like she does when she wants mealworms. There was a sliver of chicken left on one of the legs. I pulled it off and handed it to her to see what she thinks. She ate it, then raised her head up for more. Maybe that was wrong. I thought it was kind of funny that a duck likes the taste of chicken though. I didn't think I should mention that to anybody, but since you fed yours pork roast, why not?

it's okay with me mine have eaten chicken, sardines, pork, turkey and beef. They love it all. I haven't ever fed them one of my chickens though although my dogs got to eat some Roosters we processed and I cooked. Okay now I will be the one in trouble. lol

I just found out from the hatchery that my order isn't going to shipped til May 11th. I thought waiting a week was gonna drive me crazy. Now I have to wait a whole month?! I'd be pulling my hair out if I hadn't just had my barber buzz it all off.
LOL well as fast as time flies it will be here before you know it. Do you have a dog maybe start pulling it's hair out till yours grows out.

Our goose is doing great! Thanks for asking about her. Unfortunately, her eggs were not fertile. I did order some eggs from a man in Louisiana and after 2 attempts at shipping eggs and a power outage due to a bad storm, I think I have 3 good eggs that are viable. We named our new goose "Highway" and she seems to be doing ok. She doesn't eat as much as I'd like. I've tried different treats for her and she seems to like birdseed and lettuce the best. The former care takers told me she loved lettuce and I've never seen a goose go after lettuce like that! She ate a whole bag of romaine lettuce. I'm not sure if that is healthy for her, however. If anyone can recommend some goose treats, I would appreciate it. I've tried fermented corn (which I feed my chickens and guinea hens), meal worms. black oil sunflower seeds, bird seed, bananas, raisins, apples with no luck. Also, I do not see her graze at all. She mostly sits by our vehicles and suns herself. I wonder if she is sad....? I wish I knew if or where geese like to be petted as we would love to give her scratches or whatever geese like. The first couple of nights, she slept on the back porch in a chair so she could look in the kitchen window at us. Now, she sleeps out in the yard, not in the coop with everyone else. She seems to like our big Italian Maremma (LGD) and will sleep close to him during the day. I feel so bad for her and don't know what to do to cheer her up. She follows my husband around a lot when we are doing chores because I think she is afraid or my little dog who follows me everywhere. She seems happy when I come home from work and comes to greet me. We have plenty of pasture for her to go in and graze, but maybe, since she is alone, she doesn't want to go out in the pastures by herself? The guineas go out there, but I think she is a little bit afraid of them. They are acting like complete idiots running after one another and fighting since it is their breeding/laying season right now.

Hi! I'm new to goose ownership....I just bought what I was told was a baby Talouse gosling. Ours has a dark grey bill with a white spot on the tip.....so I wasn't sure if she was actually a Talouse or not. I'll post a pic of "her" as soon as I get home. Oh also, is there a way other than vent sexing to determine if she is really a she like I was told? She's only about 2 weeks old right now.

I would bet once you hatch some goslings your going to see a different goose. Mine love chopped kale and Romaine is a big hit here too. She probably is lonely so once your goslings hatch I would introduce them to her when they get over being wobbly Geese do better with other geese and they have a very strong maternal instinct.
Thanks for updating and please keep us informed on the eggs too.
Great pics.
