Hi,
I have searched and read and still have not found a definitive answer to my concerns. It was announced today that our town will be doing aerial spraying. Will this harm the chickens? If they eat bugs or grass?

Thank you,
Susan in Massachusetts

See if you can obtain the MSDS sheets from the city/town that correspond with the pesticide. Those should give a good description of the hazards of the chemicals. They shouldn't have a problem providing you that information- they're intentionally releasing the pesticide into your environment so they shouldn't have anything to hide in regard to what exactly they are spraying.

There are different kinds of spraying. The old kind is with a pesticide, probably Malathion, but it might be something else. If they use Malathion, it is highly unlikely they will get enough to cause them harm.

The new kind is with something that targets the mosquito larve before they develop into adults. It is extremely safe to people and animals because it only targets mosquito larva.

It would be good to know what they are spraying with so you can take precautions if necessary. If you don't know what you are dealing withm how can you know how to react?
