I agree. I loathe anything with characters.... and Hannah Montana makes me want to vomit.

I had serious issues with all the recalled toys from China last Christmas and went out of my way to buy things made in the USA.
Step 2 and Crayola are made in the US and the boys will most likely get alot of art supplies for Christmas this year again too, along with alot of the following. Here's some places I shopped for our family.

Magic Cabin

Zebulon USA

Holgate Toys

Taraluna

Stump Pond Woodworks

The Naked Bee

Blue House Soaps

I'm so glad I'm a grandmother of 2 preteens these days. I'm glad to see so many with great ideas for little ones.
The toy shown on the Heartsong catalog is like the one I had at age 7 pack in the 1950's! I played with them until the colors wore off.

I did not read the entire thread and someone may have said this but I despise children's clothing with all these animals and logos and mess on them! My son is not a walking billboard for disney or any other company. I refuse to buy them.

I beg to differ. Emeril is WAY WAY more annoying than anyone else I've SEEN with cooking utensils. Just having to type his name gave me carpal tunnel.

I have resorted to buying my son shirts and such from the ladies dept. Our shirts kept getting muddled in the wash - that was my first clue he could wear a ladies size, I just make sure they're boy colors and he's good to go.
I bet he'll soon be able to fit into small men's sizes.

Where are all the plain Jane t shirts and overalls that we used to wear as kids??????????

Oh yeah, the Breyer horses are still good to play with even they are already in their thirties.

Matchbox cars are a fav of my sisters, make sure they are die casted. Not those plastic cheapies that if you step on one of them, they go crush! I had to search on Ebay for those things and they are a little mroe expensive than the modern ones.

I hated Montana and Bratz dolls, I told my daughter's grandparents to buy her Barbie dolls, not those dolls!

I picked up a pair of overalls for my 2 yr old just this week.

I can usually only find them at the local feed and seed and old fashioned hardware store.

I found 1 pair the other day at TSC and snapped them up without even cringing at the prince tag.
