Tractor Supply Chicks

Stay out of Tractor Supply. You know you get enough chicks from me to stay in trouble. You don't need anymore!

I know, I know! But arent you proud of me going into the feedstore and not taking any!!! AT ALL!!! I cant believe it!!

I am wanting to get some chicks this year and figured I would go with TSC so I can get a small amount. I called the 2 closest to me
The closest has ducks and Cornish
and the one a little further has
Ducks, Cornish and Light Brahmas

hmmm I feel like I have been waiting so long for them to get their chicks and this is all they have lol man I would have even gone with just a red pullet bin guess I am going to wait a little longer :(

yeah - we were also disappointed with their selection. We can only have hens, so we did not buy the Austrailorps that one TS had in stock. If we would have gotten roosters we would not know what to do with them, since they are illegal in our town.

Looking around online, it seems like most breeds aren't available till late March or April.

We are def planning on ordering some eventually and weve decided on Barred rocks. We love their feathers lol. I love baby chickens tho and know my girls would get a kick out of havin some and since we plan on havin chickens anyway I figured. Why not go ahead and get a few from TS for the kids to enjoy. Im hopin we can go early tom. I gotta call the TS back in the morn and see if they still have any and if they do Im hopin we can either get some of the Brahmas or maybe a few of the reds if they arent too big. Im not lookin for mature chickens just the babies so we will have plenty of time to get the coop set up. It would be awsome if they could get in some barred rocks in one of their shipments but they told me that they dont know what they are gettin til it gets there so I gotta keep callin back. Im soo excited that DH even agreed to let us get any this early lol.

The TSC nearest to me has Cornish X, Buff Brahmas and Pekin ducks. I asked for two ducklings and four Brahma chicks, but they insisted the six chick minimum meant that I had to take six ducks and six chicks. I took the Brahmas (one of which the kid dropped before putting into my box

) and plan to go around to the other TSCs in the area later this week to see what they have.

The TSC in Carlisle had "Red Pullets", Brown Leghorns, and Cornish X.

Apparently the fact that I never was good at math in school makes me excellent at chicken math. I wasn't interested on any of those breeds going on. And wslkuout with 3 each of the reds and browns.

I skipped our local TSC because the employees seem to lack wanting the birds at all. In the Lancaster TSC there is a lady that works there that has had chickens most of her life and really enjoys chick days. Today she did tell me she is usually glad when the two months is over, but overall loves being the one to care for them. They had cornish rocks, red Pullets, assorted ducks, and barred rock straight run. They even had a little sick bay where some of the birds that didn't take transport so well were rehabbing by themselves.

I would have been able to walk away except the only thing I really wanted to add to my flock this year was either dominque or barred rocks. So, I got 4 red Pullets and 6 barred rocks. I am hoping by picking the light ones I got Pullets, but we will see. The only thing I will be upset by is if I managed to pick ALL boys. I really thought it was easier getting the set up this time. My goodness, I made it an ordeal last time, as they were our first chicks. This is is for a while, so I am glad I got what I wanted! I didn't expect to do it today, but hey, they will start laying before winter almost guaranteed now!;)
