Tractor Supply Chicks?

I ordered 5 bantams from MPC back in November. They are due to ship the first week in April. The wait is killing me! I'm trying to keep myself from going to TSC when the get their chicks in. I don't know if I have the will power though.

I ordered chicks from there in April too.

Today MPC posted on FB they have chicks available to ship today. The min qty is 15 but I figured ah why not 5 or 15 what's the difference. I'm going to have an 8x8 coop. So I called. Get through picking the 15 go to the checkout and other peoples orders are stealing my picks while I was on the phone. So I think it was the worlds way of saying be patient and wait for April. I will get the 5 I want. I just have to wait..... I'm not good with waiting.....

I worked for TSC.

They don't give any training to their employees about chicks. Or horses, or goats, or dogs, or farm equipment for that matter. They try to offer little "info sessions" from time to time to educate on certain things........proper feeding, care, basic motor maintenance, etc. What they also do is try to hire employees who already have applicable knowledge. For example, when I got hired, I came with small animal vet assistant experience, extensive equine and chicken experience, and some goat/rabbit experience. I didn't know it all and didn't pretend to. There were other employees who were more knowledgeable about mechanics and hunting/fishing, and I was the go-to girl for horse, chicken, and pet stuff. You have to remember that this is a part-time, minimum wage job. (I was struggling to find ANYthing after my divorce (WITH a bachelors degree in business and experience using it) and I was happy to work there for the 7 months it took me to find something better. It is a great company, and if the oppotunity had arisen for me to advance while I was there, I would have taken it. (As it was, no one left the higher positions! LOL!)

And yes, the individual stores do not know which chicks they will be getting. They do not know exactly when. A lot of the "when" depends on the shipping company. And the "what" is decided above store management level. They might have some sort of influence if they cared to (not sure) but they still have the rest of the store to run.

Quality of the birds is the same as from any hatchery. Care of the birds has been top notch in my experiences. Depends on the individual store, I'm sure......but the one I worked at, and the ones I"ve visted before and since have been well managed.

Sure, you can get birds elsewhere. I always advocate supporting the mom and pop places. But TSC is a GREAT company for what it is.

*stepping down off my soapbox* ;)

I agree TSC is a good store.

I buy my chicken food, (as well as any chicken supplies I might need), at TSC. I have gotten chicks there before, and only one has died. Some employees know A LOT about chickens, while others simple don't.

Every store is different, so what you get in one county might not be what you will get in another. All in all I really think TSC is great store.

My thumbs are up for TSC always been good but are more expensive then hatchery's. I am going there today to get my ducks though.
Last yr I got 40 ducks and I got 2 drake and the rest were hens and I lost 4 in all.
