Tractor Supply Lied To Me!!!

Any rooster can be loud. It can vary. It's more individual than breed oriented. Roosters are great at protecting the flock and are pretty good entertainment. Their job is to keep those gals safe no matter what. Even if it means putting themselves in harms way. My friend had a rooster that she thought was a girl at first. Later they realized it was definitely a cockerel. He was stinking huge!!!!! His name before was Pumpkin. So they dubbed him Senior Pumpkin. He was the best fun to watch run through the yard.

She had so many banties that she just felt bad watching him try to mate with the itty bitty girls so she rehomed him. He was a great rooster and loved by all.

Great to see such enthusiasm from you about chickens Ragerkid2! I didn't go through TSC for the reason you now see, then several of my friends who did get their chicks got mostly roosters, so I went through a private breeder who could guarantee me a better chance of hens. The lady I went through also said if any of them died she would replace them for me for free.

When you get a chance, you will have to post photo's of your baby peeps!

As for the roosters, I got good homes for two of mine by going through Craig's list and gave them away. For me personally, it was more important to find good homes vs getting a little money from them. I do understand that people will eat roosters and while I can't, when the people picked up our two roosters, I told each of them, if that was there intent, to please not tell me. I hand raised them and ensured they were gentle, so to me, they were pets.

I will have to look into craigs list. I will even go as far as delivering these babies. Money isn't a concern of mine eathier. I'll post pics in a hour or two

I got lucky (in retrospect) at TSC; my 12 ISA Browns were as advertised, all pullets. Although TSC was cheaper than our wonderful local feed store for chicks, that wasn't the deciding factor in my choice of where to purchase. The feed store required you to buy 25 birds , all the same type and you had to pre-order them a month ahead. I only wanted 12, and TSC would sell 6 minimum, of whatever mix you wanted.
I guess I was really fortunate because one of the employees was a poultry expert and guarded the birds and bunnies jealously. This year the local TSC has 6' chain link surrounding the animals with locks on the openings and nobody can get in and mix up the straight-run birds from the pullets.
However, I support my local feed store to the max. I buy all my feed and accessories there. TSC is great for some stuff, but if you don't support your local feed mill it'll go out of business.

Gosh, I would be thrilled to accidentally get the Brahmas. They are fantastic looking birds. If you do end up with roosters, it shouldn't be a problem to find them a new home since they are pretty roosters.

Here's a good one--I was thinking about getting 3-4 chickens for eggs. A friend asked what kind I wanted I said Easter Eggers. The next day he comes over and hands me two tractor supply boxes and says here are your egg layers. One box was 6 black stars and the other was rhode island reds. When I went to the store to get lamp, feed, water and feed containers I asked who sold a guy 12 chicks. The girl who sold them said the reds were out of the straight run bin and they didn't know what the black ones were. By looking at pictures here I'm pretty sure they are Black Stars. Easter eggers and egg layers that is close right? HA HA

Are you sure you don't want to keep the Brahma's? We have an assortment of chickens, and the Light Brahma's are by far my favorite. We received our first one from a friend, after that I searched for MONTHS before I found more - and happily drove nearly 2 hours each way to get them. They are large birds, VERY cold-hardy, sweet-natured, friendly and affectionate. My hens lay 4-5 eggs per week each. After I finally found my Light Brahma rooster, I found homes for all of my other roosters. He is now my ONLY rooster, because I like him so much. He doesn't crow much, watches after the hens beautifully, and even lets small children pick him up and love on him, etc. We have Light Brahma's, Silkies, Buff Orpingtons, Easter Eggers, Sussex, and Leghorns, and the Brahma's are far in the lead as my favorites.

If you do decide to find them new homes, post them on your local craigslist - you will very quickly make your money back and probably some extra. However I recommend checking out the breed a little bit - you may decide to keep them!

Oh I would LOVE tO keep them! Or atleast one. I will keep all of my hens. Hopefully I get mostly hens. We found a lady who works at R
TSC and she is taking them. (super nice lady)! TSC is also giving me ten free red sex links that were put in a special brooder just for us! I'm ESTATIC! I am so glad they made this right! Everything worked out in the end! I live is Johnstown Pa if anyone wants one.

Brahma's are pretty great, I'm sorry TSC was not so great. The employees at my TSC are mostly 'young adults', and while they are all always nice and helpful...not always the most knowledgeable group. Last time I went to get some chicks from them, they informed me I had to buy at least 6, it was a state law. Which I have never heard that before, and apparently they all thought it was bogus also.... they ended up selling me two because their boss wasn't there. Half the chick bins at my TSC weren't even labeled either, which wasn't helpful. I just knew what I was looking for, thank heavens! I think you will end up liking the Brahmas if you decide to keep 'em!
