Tractor Supply Lied To Me!!!

Ion just upset because of all the harm I went through to get these little girls (what I thought were little girls) and how much time I spent with them. As long as I can genome chicks I'll be fine and get
Over it. I just hope I can find my little baby's a home

I have 3 buff brahmas amd they are wonderful. The adorable and very friendly and not very flighty(which is more than I can say about my Jersey Giants xD). I say keep them and wait to see which are hens and which are roosters and keep the hens. They are in fact supposedly good egg layers(I can't be sure on this, mine are only like.... 5-6 weeks or something like that so no eggs from them). they are also really pretty.

Hope u get it all worked out. Maybe if you can't get your money back, keep a couple of your fav.s and rehome the others? Brahmas are very sweet chickens.

Another problem with feed store bins...when the Chicks get big enough, they fly into other bins and then nobody knows what they are!

I plan on keeping ALL of the hens just not re roosters ; ( I would like to keep one even two but my mom won't let me. Are the LB loud roosters?

I am only about a year into the chicken world but I can say this...instant gratification is great but if you want a specific breed or gender you should order from a reputable hatchery. I didn't do a lot of research when I first placed an order and out of my 8 "hens" 6 turned out to be roosters. Like you I had spent many hours with them and couldn't imagine letting them go but I was able to find a local farm that had a "petting" zoo and where happy to take them. I did keep one roo that is now leash trained

but I will add that our chickens are treated more as pets rather than "livestock".

Good Luck:thumbsup

I went to my TSC today and they had no idea what they had. They had a pullet tub and a straight run tub, but she had no idea what they were, and no one else there did either. I could tell there weren't any EEs, and since the livestock store had the breeds I was looking for, I was going to wait until tomorrow to get them (when they have chick days). I called and they let me get them early, so YAY!!!!

But yes, I would suggest finding a different local feed store, one where the people know what has been ordered and what they actually got. Interestingly, all the chicks at both places came from the same place (which is about an hour away), but the folks at the feed store really knew what they were doing.

Good luck!

I am so sorry you are upset and disappointed. Although clearly the TSC personnel did not attempt to be sure you were getting the birds you expected, something else happens. People handle the birds and don't put them back where they found them. I've seen birds get all jumbled up, One of the best ways to buy chicks is through a breeder or a hatchery. I hope your problem get solved... in the end it will all work out.

Big Hugs and my best to you,
Jenny

When you buy from a feed store or a pet store it is "at your own risk". after all this time has passed, I don't think tractor supply should be liable for replacing the birds. It is up to the customer to know what they are getting, and be sure they are getting what they want. Yes, they should have things labeled properly but you are dealing with a company who handles livestock once a year for a limited amount of time. Heck one of my local tsc doesn't even want to do chick days, they can't sell their chicks. Yet it comes down from the DM how many they need to order and of what they need to order.

Take it as a lessoned learned, and next time buy from an actual breeder/hatchery or know the breeds before you purchase. Last year we bought straight runs. We wanted mostly hens, but went with the straight runs..didn't know any better and can't blame anyone but ourselves for not doing the proper research before we went in and bought our chicks. I have no problem buying from tractor supply, and did again this year. However we knew enough to stick with the pullet bins, and read the signs on the bins.. but we also know mistakes happen and will deal with it if we get chicks that turn out to be roosters.

Even hatchery pullets may not be 100% pullets...its a risk you take when buying animals who do not have genitals that are easy to identify.

Brahmas are my favorite breed too. They are super sweet and funny. You should have a decent amount of pullets from that group. Brahmas are a breed you can sex with their wing feathers pretty successfully when they are newborn. Remember they change all the time. You could think one is a boy and it end up being a girl. Don't get your heart sunk too quick. Just wait it out and in a few weeks you should start to notice more signs. around 6-8 weeks (closer to 8) the tell tale signs should really appear. If you're not sure, post them up here and make sure we can see their waddles and their combs and their tail feathers. You will be able to get rid of the cockerels fairly easy. I'm sure you can find other chicks or young pullets from local BYC peeps too.

They are good laying hens with medium to large brown eggs. Very weather hardy, very ornamental and very fun. I think you may have lucked out in this case
