When I went to buy my chicks from tractor supply, the lady at the counter insisted that I had to fill out all my personal information in a chicken registry, including my phone number, email and home address.

She made it sound like this was a legal requirement. Something about having to keep track of diseased animals. I live in texas.

Did anyone else have this experience?

I'm not from Texas, but I've heard of this. If a Bird Flu outbreak happens around you (though I'm not entirely sure about this), they (State people?) may come to your farm and test your birds. Or they might alert you that Bird Flu is in your area.

I’m in nj and I had the same experience for both ducks and chickens. I specifically asked and was told it’s a state requirement for public health reasons.

Well, I have never been to Tractor Supply, and going by the amount and frequency of messages I see posted to social media platforms of people with bad stories about Tractor Supply, I never want to go there either.

However I think it is absurd to have to fill out a form for a "chicken registry"!?

I buy most of my chickens from a local stockfeed store, or a heritage breeder. They recognise who I am, but no data is recorded at all.
