Tractor Supply - Wilton/Farmington, Maine Sunday March 4th!

I went to the auction in Fairfield earlier in the winter, and to tell you the truth, I was not impressed with the outfit. I went with a friend who was trying to decide if she wanted to bring pigs and cows there. We stayed through that and then came the birds. There were boxes piled up about 6 high and packed solid all around the small space provided. Once they started opening the boxes to sell the contents there were alot of weak and dead birds. They could not get any air to breath because they were packed in the space to tightly as to not allow the air to reach them. I vowed then I would not bring birds to that auction. They were bringing for the most part only 50 cents so for that I will save the gas and give them to people who feed their dogs or will eat them themselves. I feel it is more humane to do this. I can always find people to take them. This is just my opinion.

Dennis and I went to Wilton TSC around 11 am to see how things were going there was only one young woman with her friend there -- she said Nancy was there but didn't stay long -- too cold and not enough buyers -- The young woman said she was having a good day so far sold a few rabbitts and forgot the other things she mentioned . She came last year as a regular and plans on being there this year . I havn't herd from Louise about every sunday yet -- we had talked about it but hadn't herd back yet to see how the company felt . If it's a go then awesome -- I only hope there is enough business for every sunday -- As far as the public wanting grown instead of chicks -- it's really always been that way -- just getting more request now because more people are starting to farm there own . I do think LF egg layers are going to be more popular because of there production rate ( although personally my bantams seem to lay just as well in my opion ) Your not going to have a lot of show people looking for birds at a swap -- the economy makes people want to raise their own food -- from eggs - to meat - to milk - and veggies -- there will be only a few that want something purty to look at on their lawn -- I knew this march swap was to early but glad it happened now we know march is not a good month to start the spring swaps ( unless it's march 31st lol ) -- I'm actually headed to the auction in fairfield today ;) I love going -- When you go to auctions you have to remember it's a place people take their culls or animals they just cann't tend too anymore -- it's not a breeders place -- you can find good stock but most of the time you have to heal them or simply give them some good groc. -- I used to go to Claytons also till he crossed -- his son was trying to run the auction but it didn't work out and they closed it . I remember as a young woman going and my brother-in-law would buy sick or weak animals there and use them for bear bait -- The auction has always been a place to move the animals you cann't from home instead of feeding them . I do think poultry rates very low at most of them becuase they don't bring in much money . I agree it is probably wiser to just place or cull from home ,then waste the gas for the auction --( poultry isn't going very high -- mostly dealers buying right now ) well hope everyone has a shinenie day ~~~~~ Tammy
