That's pretty cool sequoiacyclist, I hope they all make it! After candling while it was dark out, I found out that all 12 are alive so far...15 more days (=

Neat thread, I can't wait for more pictures!

Yeah tell me about it!

I have got two pips out of the mystery eggs so far, and I am dying to know who is inside! I have a hunch though that the egg producer used white rock roos and production red hens. Should be an interesting combination!

Ahhh...they're hatching now. Two of them are bright yellow and one of them has some orange fluff and a spot on its back. I have heard that Rock Island uses white rock roos and production red hens which would make sex-links right? Though the spot on the back is throwing me off. Maybe dad was a California leghorn... I will post pics after they're all out and dried. And they said I couldn't hatch store bought fertile eggs......

They sound like my buff orp eggs. i have a hard time getting them into the cartons

I bought some eggs from a guy on ebay. They are the largest brown eggs I have ever seen. They are from Red sex link hens he said. He has them in with a couple RIR hens and a RIR roo. (ought to be good layers I guess)

That makes sense because I called the farm that they came from & they are a mix of black sex links, RIRs, & some other large breed.

Mine are still hatching, but I promise to post pictures when they are all out! I don't know what to think of these little guys.....they're definitely a cross between a white and a red bird. I am thinking they are golden sex-links.

Well, they are all here. Of 12 eggs, 2 were infertile 1 quit at 1 week, 1 quit at 17 days, and 8 hatched. Look at these beautiful babies! I am still very curious about their breed though. They came out of large brown eggs from Rock Island Eggs (Petaluma Farms). I expected them to look more like production reds, but all of them are a nice yellow/cream color except one chick, which has a orange face and one dark spot on her back. Do any of you have any guesses what breed these little guys are? White rocks? Production red/Rock crosses? Thanks! Oh, and if anyone is in California I will be giving some of them away. My coop has reached capacity. Let me know if you are interested!
