If the hatched chick gets too rough with them, take it out.

I like to wait until there are at least two though.

another had hatched in the night and i did take it out so i put this one with it. it was not "dry" but i could not stand to hear eggs rolling....4 more have pips...i have a broody and i had given her two eggs so they are due to hatch today and tomorrow as well...i was going to put the first one under her if "she" did not have a friend soon...but its fine. thanks so much!

I'd rather have eggs rolling around than to open the incubator and have the humidity drop (and temperature). I've taken a chick out that hatched a few days early but even then I threw a wet, microwaved paper towel in there to bring the temp and humidity back up quickly.

O.K. Looks like I have 17 out of 48 eggs that looked good when I candled them. I accidentally cracked one of the 48 but that still leaves 30 bad eggs. Normally that would seem pretty dismal but these are eggs from the grocery store and I did transport them all the way from Tucson, AZ to Chattanooga, TN both flying and driving. Anyhow, at least it wasn't a total bust like last time. I made sure not to X-Ray the eggs at the airport. One thing I love about these white eggs is how easy it is to candle them.
I would love to try some TJ eggs, they don't have fertile ones around here. I am going to Vegas in a couple of weeks and thinking of checking stores out there, how does TSA react to bringing eggs through security, or did you pack them in your checked luggage?

I'm a flight attendant and in a lot of our cities (like Tucson) they have a program called Known Crewmember where we don't have to go through X-Ray.

true for sure but when i took out both chicks it did not drop..it is just the hovabator styrofoam thing...i have a wet sponge in there and it has been 60-65% without going lower. the temp has remained 99.2-99.7 all day too...3 Marans have pipped and then nothing and another silkie is working on it....i expect i will have christian when i wake up...like at 4:30 am! i won't be able to wait!

Your thermometer and hygrometer might not indicate a drop but there certainly is a drop in both temperature and humidity as soon as you open one of those styrofoam incubators up. If your remaining chicks seem to have trouble turning in the egg to peck a complete circle they might be stuck due to the humidity drop.
