I have a broody hen and I bought some nice eggs from a breeder but we are afraid to ship them with the crazy weather. So now I'm seriously thinking about grocery store eggs! My TJs doesn't carry the fertile eggs but I stopped at Whole Foods and they have 2 kinds! Their 365 brand and Nutrifresh fertile. And my co-op grocery has local eggs from an egg farm that free ranges hens with roos. Unfortunately the asian grocery doesn't carry any. I guess I'm going to get me some cold eggs!

Oh and the WF eggs were brown.

I'm assuming they are white leghorns at this point,as many have said that's what lays TJ's white eggs.
Hatched 2/8 - 2/9

When I was at my local run of the mill grocery, they had the land o lakes free range eggs. I am not a chicken person, but after having a few laughs following this thread, I couldn't help but be tempted to pick some up and try to get a couple of peeps out of them LOL. Leghorns make good fryers right? Might be a nice summer project for the kids.

Has anyone had it confirmed through TJ's that all the hens are white leghorns? How about the roosters? I emailed TJ's asking those questions, hopefully they will provide answers. I tried to feather sex them, but they all looked the same to me

I was lucky enough to see the incipient comb on the cockerel AS IT CAME OUT OF THE SHELL! Of course, he was also the one that hatched upside down... which might have been a clue.

As they've grown, mine have followed the "convention" of pullets feathering out their tailfeathers before the cockerel gets his.

Ya know I never really thought about it until last night, but I do know that at places like Safeway, if you request a product they will usually order them for you.

I just did this on a totally different product at TJ's. Can't find any place out here that sells green tea with lemongrass. So they'll have it next week.

Most major chains WILL stock an extra product for their customers and that includes fertile eggs.

Just thought I'd mention it for those who are having a tought time searching.

Don't request through an emplyee, request from the manager. If they tell you they can't do it, say thank you and contact corperate and request it there.

I wouldn't mention that you are hatching the eggs though.

I had a lengthy conversation with my local safeway mgr. tonight. I told him I only go there for a few products I cant find elsewhere. Main reason is their prices are high. But tonight I went there and had poor customer service. The main problem with safeway is that the union is more powerful then the store. I tried to be gentle with the Asst. Mgr. but in reality, I'm very ticked off
