Trader Joes & Other Grocery Store Egg Hatching Club - Are you a Member

Out of the dozen eggs I bought, 8 were fertile. So far 5 have hatched! Keep 'em comin'!

Im in St. Louis right now for the weekend. We passed a Trader Joes. DD said we should go see if they have some fertile eggs. We may do this before we leave. Would be cool to see if we could get some to hatch.

Out of my 3 dozen brown store eggs 6 hatched. There solid yellow chicks with feathered feet....

She's my white crested black polish and I really wanted babies from her. I'm looking at getting another rooster for my other coop so maybe i'll add her in there and see what happens.

but once these eggs i have hatch (day 21 here and they'd rather stay inside the egg and chirp at me instead of coming out!) I think i'm going to go get me some whole foods ones to play around with lol!

Well today is Day 20 and unfortunatley I had none of my "FERTILE" store bought eggs develop. I also put in 13 of my hens eggs and 2 were unfertile. 11 went into lockdown and so far today 4 hatched and 2 have pipped.

Here is an update on my Trader Joe's eggs:

"J" on the left and "T" (first-hatched on the right) are now 4.5 weeks old and striving! The crew at our loal TJ store know about teh hatch and constantly ask for updates

Huh. I never thought to go back to the store and tell the clerks how successful I was at hatching those eggs I said I was gonna incubate. The folks at my favorite feed store are amazed enough....

Where do I get my card?

I have 4 TJ's babies hatched under a broody this weekend.

For those of you that have hatched these guys before, whats their personality like? I hope they aren't flighty.

Well, they are White Leghorns, so they are a bit more flighty than some mellow breeds. My four, a cockerel and 3 pullets, were hatched with another breed of chicken (just one pullet) and they all hang together. They have integrated into the flock, but they still range around in a little group of five: 4 white chickens and one dark brown one.

They're too low in the pecking order to be able to get to me at treat time to eat out of my hands. Fooey. But I have a fairly large flock of all different breeds, and some very senior hens.
