Trader Joes & Other Grocery Store Egg Hatching Club - Are you a Member

Just did my 14 day candle on my Stop & Shop fertile eggs. I got 8 embryos going strong. Pulled out the clear and three quitters. Don't want to risk an explosion. Pretty happy with these guys, pretty resilient. Commercially cleaned and refrigerated for 11 days and still at 75% !

i have not tried it yet but ia m going to get some from safeway for my next hatch...i am so intrigued !!!
oh and BTW...??? i am doing my first ever incubator hatch...sunday i need to up the humidity and they say do not open the bator after that day..but right now i have to add water each nigh to keep at 45-50%...so if i add another channel for the H2O...to get it to what 80%? what if it goes down in that 3 days before hatch? can i open to quickly add water??? i must right???? thanks for help! you guys seem to be the hatching experts !!

Just out of curiosity, has anyone gotten these "grocery store" chick grown to hens which lay eggs? I am wondering what kind of layers they turn out to be?
Thanks,
Karen

Wow, this is all pretty impressive! Dad bought an incubator much bigger than I need, so I think we will try to set a dozen storebought eggs and see how it goes. Does the refrigeration not make a difference? I just got home from Guatemala where it standard to not refrigerate eggs. They also don't bother to wash off the protective costing like we do here!

I have TeJae, my Trader Joe's hatched hen. She is phenomenal! She's my smallest bird and lays an X-Large or Jumbo egg nearly every day (28 out of 31 days last month), even through winter. When it's time to replenish my flock I'll be hatching LOTS more TJ eggs.

I just did a tally of my chicken statistics. TeJae laid an egg 321 out of 344 days. Several months were solid in production.

Mine begin laying on the early side, lay extra large tinted eggs, and lay nearly daily (currently they've been put off laying by recent bad weather and a coop move, though).
