I decided to remove and crack open the dud and lo and behold, it wasn't fertilized. The yolk was a little flat from sitting in the heat but it smelled good still (I'm sure it was fine to eat even 6 days in the heat, but I fed it to the dog anyway, LOL) Eggs really are amazing!

So far my incubator is doing a great job! I'm very happy with it! But then again, I have 2 more weeks to go....

Well, I just checked all my eggs again, and it seems one got a blood ring, so it's out. I'm down to 6 eggs. Still not bad, one infertile and the other a blood ring. Just hope the rest will make it!!!

I did see movement in the last 6 eggs though so hopefully they'll all make it to the end now (the blood ring one must have quit around day 3-4, as there wasn't much in the egg)

LOL, despite saying I wouldn't look until day 14, I did. And I saw an egg with a dark blotch and no movement which I took for bacteria. The blotch was at the other end from the air sack, where I usually don't see the chick. I took it out and was going to dispose of it, but my husband insisted I give it more time. So back in it went and the next morning, it looked normal with movement! I'm so glad he stopped me!!! LOL I also no longer see the blotch??

Lesson learned! Still have 6 eggs

Hi Everyone!

So I live no where near a Trader Joes or Whole Foods. We do have a Natural Grocers though. I was looking at their eggs in there and am not sure if any of them could be fertile. Do any of you know of brands that are fertile. It seemed like there was an Amish Farm one that said organic free range, but not sure if they run roosters with their hens. I am kind of thinking that I would like to try this for the World Egg Day Hatch along...so I have some time...I think the set day is September 21. I think it would be a fun way to participate in that hatch without dropping a lot of money on shipped eggs.

TIA for any assistance. :)

Maybe it was taking a nap!? Lol

LOL, yah, little bugger! I sure hope they all make it to the end! :bow

WyoChickenMamma, If you'll eat them ok, just buy the free range eggs, candle them, take out those that look like they might have damaged air sacks or something, then crack 'em open and see if they are fertile. If all of them are, there is a good chance the rest of them are. If not, just eat them :p I got a dozen eggs at TJ's ; 4 had moving air sacks so we ate them, and I checked them before cooking and found them to be fertile, the rest of them went into the incubator. After 4 days I candled and found one was not developing at all, so I fed it to the dog. I checked it and indeed it was not fertile. I later lost one, as I got a blood ring, it must have quit around day 3 or 4. Now I'm down to 6 eggs, but those all look healthy!

I'm also planning on incubating for World Egg Day, LOL. I was planning on ordering Serama eggs around the 15th anyway so it's perfect timing! Good luck! I hope if you try this, you'll find they are fertile! Remember to get the freshest date possible! The eggs are usually dated with the Julian calender, 001 being Jan 1st and 365 being December 31. Just google a chart and remember this is a leap year!

Yah, that's gonna be a really fun thread! :celebrate

I couldn't resist and candled my eggs again today :idunno I just can't help myself! They are so interesting! I guess it's good if I get the urge out of my system before I attempt the Serama eggs I want to buy next month!. I can't wait to try my hand at 'em! :weee :ya

OMG, it was so HOT today, I needed an airconditioner for my incubator! UGH! Our little air conditioner can only do so much! Had to prop the lid to keep the temp down, seriously! Yikes! I'm SO ready for winter!

Eggs seem like they're still ok though it got a bit dry in there. Hopefully it's ok though!
