Tragedy related to nutrition?

I feed Nutrena what is it Natural

I also feed Loyall Dog Food senior, made by Nutrena, all fowl and dogs do so well onNutrena, Oh, I also either add limestone or oyster shells.

The later are purchased in 50 pound bags.

Now, it may not be the food, but, think about it, we can twist and impact on an object or step the wrong way and cause a fracture.

There's no difference in egg taste. And their poop looks normal, but it does have a different smell. I watched a cockerel scratch around in some leaves today and kill and eat a mouse. That concerns me because of worms.

I bought a BLRW rooster from a woman that insisted I go all natural no soy no this and no that. I put the rooster in with 2 hens and he just sat there I thought he was a capon. I was very unhappy, he looked OK but acted lethargic never crowed or showed interest in girls. I started feeding him raw meat with other animal based protein feed stuff and within 2 weeks he was crowing jumping on the hens and acting like a male rooster should act. I do not have to go to this extreme with the roosters I have raised but sometimes you have to bring them out of a malnourished state especially for a breeder.

I would suggest that moving the rooster had more to do with his behavior than what he was eating. I have four roosters, all on soy free & organic, and we had to build a separate coop for one of them. They all LOVE the hens, and behave eggsactly like a rooster should.

That may have been part of it I am sure. I have done this several times and this one seemed to just act differently and usually within a few days they are adjusted. He was very tame also and I mean spoiled tame I wondered if that was not also a reason, he seems to act more like a homesick puppy than a rooster as of yet. He is getting the job done but I switch him from hens to hens occasionally and he pounces on them now when before he just stood there. Now my Americaunas no problem...

Got to see the chickens in the back and was so tempted to bring some of the juvies home but knew I would have to face my dh so didn't but will maybe in the spring..

but I was a little concerned about the amt. of dust in the bag of layer and scratch? I hope that is okay. and it's too cold out yet to go out and see how much my flock has eaten of their new feed. I like the fact that it has fish meal in it, a good sourse of protein since Purina products don't have it. Thanks again for the info.
