Tragedy related to nutrition?

I didn't care for Iams or Eukanuba either

Solid Gold and Canidae are the only foods I will use to supplement my dogs raw diet. And he has no special diet requirements I just want to feed him the best food possible.

Same here. Iams just had a puppy food recall for aflatoxin. If they didn't use corn in dog food, that wouldn't be an issue.

PLEEZE post the Blue Seal Labels. My horse always ate Blueseal, and lived to 37. I chose BS because they were the only ones that had whole oats as the first ingredient, where the other feeds always had corn. When I had gotten him, he couldn't keep weight on, he was hyper and neurotic. After being on BS for several months, he developed a shine and became level headed. I would give anything to see that layer label and see what they put in their food.

My horse went right up the ladder from regular horse feed, to senior.

I see what you mean. I wish more people would read labels.

Excellent point about the roosts. I have one of those Egglu Cubes. I really dont like the ladder that attaches to the coop. They dont seem comfortable on it and usually kind of scramble on it then jump off. I should get a board with the little raised wood slats. Maybe some kind of matting on it for traction. The perches in the dog run are about two feet off the floor. Do you think that is too high? I bought that darn cube because I wanted something that didnt stand out as a chicken coop. Thought the neighbors might have a problem. It really only has three pluses. Cleanability, it can be moved around the yard and the run attachment really is of good quality with a nice skirt. Lots of minuses. You cant heat it, run electricity, the roosts are in direct line with the nest box. Had trouble with them sleeping in the nest but some smart person of BYC suggested to somebody else put a bucket in the hole that leads to the nest and take it out in the morning. I put it in when they go to bed and take it out before I go to bed and none of the girls go in there to sleep. Condensation in the very cold months is also a problem. Live and learn. If there is anybody out there with a cube any improvement suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

off-grid hen :

I would like to mention roost heights and/or constant jumping down from high-ish places can give hairline fractures or repetitive stress

This is even more so as people push there growing large fowl birds with high protein feeds (18% protein and higher) trying to get there bird to full size and laying quicker.

2ft high should be more than safe. I only thought of it because it was not so long ago that I asked about my roosts. Hubby heard or read somewhere that the leghorns will want roost up high, so he put the roosts as high as he could. I was a little nervous, so I asked here at byc. He dropped the roosts down to less than 4 ft. Then the dang leghorns decided they wanted to be up in the windows.

no matter what I tried to do to discourage them, they would be up there every night hanging on by a toenail. So we chose the lesser of 2 dangers and gave them a proper roost up there. Once in a while I'll find a dominique up there, but generally it's just the leghorns. My big partridge rocks don't bother with it, thank goodness.

I got the other feed bag, I'll post my blue seal labels for Seminole wind in the morning.

Well, yes I do. Here's the label. That's the one I use, and I must be dumb cause I can't find corn in there anywhere!!!

And you have no idea what tactfulness is , unfortunately.

Where do you suppose the plant protein products come from?

From soy-since I emailed back and forth with a representative. She finally let me know that yes there is corn and soy in it-hidden behind "grain and grain byproducts, and plant proteins.

I will be adding millet and alfalfa to their food to cut down on the other stuff.

The world is full of sneaky people.

Can chickens eat raw hamburger?

Great, I look forward to seeing the label!

In the beginning, I had an Orp and Jersey Giant chicks. They loved being 6 foot high. Every few months I worried and lowered it. It is now just above my knee. Those are big heavy birds, and I worried about their legs.

Couldn't get a clear photo so I have to type it in. On my iPhone. *sigh* Bear with me. Before I got the chicks I did some research and compared blueseal and purina. I decided there wasn't much difference due to the primary ingredients being much the same. I asked for feed with animal protein, but got nowhere. I didn't know much about percentages of other nutrients, and I still don't. I think they are comparable in constitution. But they look a bit different in the bag. I think we can agree that plant protein = some or mostly soy, and grain products= some corn and other stuff. "Same poop different cat box" as my husband would say.

. I did notice the probiotics. Now I will go read your purina label and compare.

*note* after typing the whole word "percent" with one finger and switching keyboards to get the symbol, i abbrevated. p = percent.

Egg maker crumbles-
Crude protein min 17 %, lysine .75 %, methionine min .35 percent, Crude fat min 2.5 p, crude fiber max 4 p, calcium min 3.4 max 3.8 p, phosphorus min .5 p, salt min .2 max .4 p.

Ingredients: grain products, plant protein products, processed grain by-products, calcium carbonate, monocalcium phosphate, salt, DL-methionine, choline chloride, L-lysine monohydrochloride, vit E supplement, zinc sulfate, ferrous sulfate, manganese sulfate, zinc proteinate, copper sulfate, calcium iodate, vit A supplement, manganese proteinate, copper proteinate, sodium selenite, vit D3 supplement, niacin, d-calcium pantothenate, riboflavin, thiamine mononitrate, pyridoxine hydrochloride, cobalt carbonate, colic acid, vit B12 supplement, biotin. Menadione sodium bisulfite complex (source of vit K activity), brewers dried yeast, yeast culture, dried enterococcus faecium fermentation product, dried lactobacillus acidophilus fermentation product, dried aspergillus Niger fermentation extract, dried trichoderma longibrachiatum fermentation extract, dried bacillus subtilus fermentation extract, saccharomyces cerevisiae fermentation solubles.

Whew, I don't think I'll do that again for the other feed.

I tried really hard to make sure the autocorrect didn't change ingredient names, and I hope I didn't make any typoes.
