Tragedy related to nutrition?

Yes it is a cool place. There is some beautifull property there. I wish I could live in the country. They have Floydfest every year. Lots of good bands. You might want to check it out.

That address brings you to the Purina site. If you go to PMI Nutrition you get to the PMI site. Here is something I got off a blog from a watch dog group that deals with pet foods:
"I am very concerned as a result of some in-depth research I just did on a little-known brand of dry dog food called “Exclusive.” First of all, you can't let the ingredients listed on the bag fool you! This brand called "Exclusive" has a decent-sounding list of ingredients, and it includes a supposedly pure protein as the first ingredient and meat "meal" as the second ingredient. However, Exclusive is part of the product line of a company called "PMI Nutrition" who was owned by Purina Mills (associated with feed mills) and then sold to Mars, a huge conglomerate. It actually took some doing to find out the parent company, because this product line has a bad reputation. A quality pet food shouldn't hide their origins, and you cannot find the name Mars associated anywhere in the PMI or Exclusive Website!"

Maybe Purina kept the web address PMI because of Purina Mills International? This is confusing. I'm getting to the bottom of this. When our feed rep comes in next he's getting asked a bunch of questions. All I know is that when my ducks were being fed Purina Flock Raiser they got a niacin defieciency.

If you don't mind me asking, where did you read that PMI Nutrition was sold to Mars?

The reason I ask is because Mars (Mars Horsecare UK Ltd) is a U.K. based Feed Co. that deals with horse feed.
The only partnership I know Mars has is with Spiller, Winergy, Buckeye Nutrition and Equivite and all of them are to be excellent feeds.

Been to the last two Floyd fests, we live about 12 miles from there its ALOT more country here, Floyd is the closest town

Just in case anyone was wondering, Nutrena's Nature Wise meatbird crumble has ground yellow corn, ground milo, and dehulled soybean meal as the first three ingredients. The fourth item is the ambiguous "processed grain by-products" while #5 is dehydrated alfalfa meal. Minimum 22% protein, and all kinds of various vitamins, minerals, and probiotics in there (finally got where I could pull the tag off the bottom).

Great news! I called Countryside Organics they have two drop points in Roanoke Va. One in Hanging Rock at the BP station and the other at the Hollins McDonalds the third Tuesday of every month. Six dollar minimum shipping fee for up to three 50 lb bags, 1.99 per bag after that. Drop times are 9:00 for Hollins and 9:20 for Hanging Rock.

You are so lucky to get it for that price!

Lucky you. I'm still waiting for that person with the group orders to call me back. I'm also waiting for Purina to get back to me on the ingredients known as "grain by products, and grain".

Okay I got the reply from Purina: My request is at the bottom

We don’t give percentages because that is part of formula and is considered proprietary. I have attached a feed tag that list the ingredients. The ingredients go from largest amount to smallest amount. If you have questions, please let me know.

Hi, I see on your label on Layena feed that the first 2 ingredients are grain by-products and grains. Can you tell me what % of corn or soy is in the grain or the by-products? Those words are a bit vague. Thankyou Karen Fletcher
