Here's what I got so far:

I lied down on the ground, and put my ear to it, this is something I always saw my master do when we were expecting a battle. I heard rumbling, but it was not horse hooves, it was lighter, so I suspected they were humans on foot. Hearing the running feet come nearer, I drew myself up. Fiona was to my left and Anatoli to my right. Anatoli moved from my right; to in between us, he said, rather quickly:
“Ladies, sorry to have scared you about these people. Now, here’s the story: About two years ago I was with my wife, whom had passed since, and my five other mares, I only had six including my wife at the time. We were eating in a wonderful meadow, then my wife went down to get some water, she asked me to come with her, but I didn’t go with her as one of the other mares needed attention to a wound, that had come from a fall. So my wife went down to the river, then I heard neigh, with fear. I saw her come galloping up the hill, with men behind her. These men were holding ropes, and spears, and they were riding horses.
