Training Aggressive Broody to Work with Kids

About five minutes required to train hen to go in and out of pen based container meal worms offered in. Chicks were too excited to find door.

When chicks flew off table, they actually flew. Hang time and direction changes. If out all the time, then up four feet and horizontal fifty would be possible if sufficiently motivated. They will be anle to do that by weekend.

About 30 minutes before dark I placed pen on ground that was preferred roosting site on previous nights that both hen and chicks could agree upon. This evening, all but the Missouri Dominique chick flew up with hen to here pen is normally positioned. Ten game chicks at 11 days post hatch can fly vertically 48". They are now imprinted more on location rather than pen itself.

Is it normal for them to fly that high at that age, or are you advancing them faster then normal?
Any I look at it I'm impressed with what you have done.

When it is warm in particular, hens will roost up with broods. Not all that warm now. If hen disturbed / feels threatened by predators on ground at night, then she is more likely to move up early. The roosting up at this age is not special.

I have had them roost six feet up at 2 weeks here they flew entire distance in one flight. American Games can fly much better than any other domestics I am familiar with. Not even bantams can match them.
