Trapping Ferals.

I trying to bait some beauty feral pigeons under an under pass near the house. I have been using whole corn trying to attract them. Not working.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Pigeons are atracted to pigeons. Do you have any tame pigeons you can clip and use with the corn as bait?

Hokum, be careful about adding ferals to your flock without stringent quarantining and medicating for canker. I have heard of ferals having a particularly virulent form of canker that they are resistant to but which rapidly kills domesticated birds.

Good advice. I am reconsidering it.
Like you wisely pointed out I do not know if the risk is worth the reward. My new flock is now just coming into its own. I tossed my first squeakers of 2016 today from about 1 mile away and things are looking up. Why jeopardize things.

In all my pigeoning I have never had a feral pigeon be a problem. I think if your in a rural area your wild birds don't eat junk like you find in larger city's. In the past I would eat the birds I didn't want to keep no problem

You could do separate loft, but generally the healthy looking ones by end of winter when still freezing, are safest bet to take on.

That is exactly what I had in mind Laughingdog. Problem is the ferals refuse to touch any of the corn or bait I put out for them yet. I am fussy also I would only want the beauties I see there. The crows and ravens are taking advantage of the banquet. I also tried placing my pigeons in the bob trap but still no luck. I do think the pigeons there are in excellent health due to the location as AZbirddad mentioned. It is something me an my grand daughter do and she will be on the moon even if we do a catch and release. I would like to have a pair of ferals just for foster parents so I can get my homer flock built up a little quicker..
