Treating Anemia from Mites and/or Worms

Hi,
I ended up realizing she had cocci and treated for that first. Then I picked up a poultry vitamin heavy in iron (see previous post) and she did great and gave to her after
Treat ment of cocci. My girls did not have mite infestation on them but I did find mites on the coop. So I bleached the heck out of the coop then I dusted the girls and sprayed the coop with a permithian spray for mites. I sprayed for at least 5 times in a three week period to make sue I got them all. Now I just spray every two weeks with my deep clean as a prevention.

I got the book "chicken health for dummies. ". And it has been very helpful. Don't use a non-stick pan when you cook the liver as that gives off a gas into the food that is toxic to chicken.

this is not limited to chickens... toxicity for 1 animal indicates a problem.
"off-gasing" is rarely a good thing - whether it comes from carpets, mattresses or non-stick pans.

Hi need help fast got sick skinny rooster with very pale wattles. I been given him chick food high protine is not good for roosters. What can I do to help him

What are the symptoms, age, living conditions (are you in the area suffering from the cold snap?) and do you have pictures?

Has the rooster been separated from the flock? You may have to take it to a vet... Do you have an avian vet available? If none in the area, call various vets and ask if they have a staff member that does exotic animals. Many times I have taken a hen to Banfield Hospital located in PetSmart stores and were treated by an exotics vet.

Hi why some ppl on here ask so many questing whiles other help wright away????? He is in my room in cage. He has runny poop and pale waddle. Skinny like I said. He didnt have mites or lice on him check hole body. Gave him bath. Is it true parasites is not a disease??? And dont know how old he is I hatch him years ago. He is a mix breed. What do u mean cold snap? Do u mean if I have a cold if yes then yes I.do. No vets do chickens called so many and what do u mean avian vet????? And what is variose vets? I know to call vets first and my mom wont drive me to vet for a chicken. I am an adult to let u know. And our pets mart is so far away

Hi-- Asking questions helps me rule out a few things so I can best help you... I am sorry your rooster is not well.

To answer your question...By cold snap, I meant those of US who are experiencing the sudden arctic temperatures. My apologies for the confusion.

Parasites (lice, mites, worms) are different than diseases (caused by viral or bacterial origins). So it's important to know what we are dealing with (and why I am asking questions).

An Avian vet is a vet that specializes in birds from parakeets to chickens.

As sick as your rooster sounds, my recommendation is to get him to a vet right away. But you also said you weren't able to get to a vet so I am going to advise you what I start with when I have a sick hen.

The below is how I treat a sick chicken.... Have you tried providing him with Apple Cider Vinegar (applied at a ratio of 1tsp per gallon) in his water? Have you tried providing him with a probiotic (example 1-2 tablespoon of plain yogurt mix with some feed 1-2 times a day) to help balance the Bacteria in his digestive system (this may help with the diarrhea)? Once the rooster is stable, you may want to consider determining if the rooster has worms that may be causing this sickness and treat for that.

If your mom is not able to take you to the vet (which can be expensive- one sick visit cost me almost $300 with testing and medicine!), then try the Apple Cider Vinegar and the Probiotic, followed by treating for worms once stable.

With a pale comb, there could be an iron deficiency, so you may want to try feeding your rooster a scrambled egg to help boost his system.

There is also a very good book that I would recommend you consider reading. The title is called "Chicken Health for Dummies". It is very informative and I use it all the time to help me understand my chickens and what to do if they get sick or hurt.

Hi u didnt say that to the other person with his sick chicken? And my chicken sounds like have same sickness as the other person u talk too. Our vets dont cost that much. And no no vets that I called dose chickens. The person u talk to why didnt u tell him bring his to vet? I said he dont have worms and he never had lice or mites to get worms. He drinks ok and eats allot. He dont like scramble eggs tryied it. I do have meds. Maybe one of them will help. What kind of yourgurt is that? And I ask about the vet u said what it means I think it was variose vets????? Yes it is cold here very my chickens have two heat lamps in there barn

try cat food that is sold in cans. in other words: not kibble/dry food but if you happen to have that, you could try offering this as well (broken up into smaller pieces).
