treating bugs in the backyard

Because of the warm winter, the ticks and other bugs are really bad this spring. I am getting 5 week old Buff Orpington chicks in 2 weeks. Can I spray my backyard with anything now to treat the bugs? I don't want to do anything that would harm my chicks. They will be mostly in a coop/run. I can keep them enclosed longer if necessary if there is a time line after I treat my yard. Any thoughts? Is there a type of bug spray that is safe around the chickens?
