Hello, I am new to BYC. I have 3 chicks, now 4 weeks old, and I am wondering when I can start hand feeding them treats like meal worms? I read the article today on 'how to train your chicken' and I am excited to start training and keep bonding with them. I have been handling them and interacting with them everyday so far.

Thanks!

I start giving my chicks treats around 3 weeks, so u can start giving them treats.

I finally signed up and I had this question in my head for awhile since I have 6 Silkie chicks. They're 6 weeks now.

I have only been giving them worms I find as treats. They're too chicken (haha) to eat any yogurt I try to give them. They seem to love those the most

But I could never figure out what to give them at 4 weeks... I was too paranoid and scared to give them anything besides what I have them eating normally.

I've heard plain yogurt that isn't flavored is a good treat.. I think it works better if you sprinkle their food on it. Also hard boiled eggs as someone said up above.

Thank you for all your replies! Seems like I am already way behind on the treat giving so I better go out tomorrow and get some ASAP.
Thanks so much! I have a feeling I'm going to love this website. I have already read a lot of valuable info for the first time chicken mom here:)

I start giving treats very early. I sprinkle grit over their fermented feed the first few days of their life then offer small treats (like seriously, one little beak-full or two per chick per day) thereafter. Veggies, leafy greens, mealworms, other bugs. I don't really do "junk" snacks. Other than the older birds get a couple handfuls of scratch every few days. They have lots of bugs and grass and weeds in my yard to eat, so they are spoiled enough!
