Hi. I have 3 chicks, each one week old and living together in a homemade brooder inside our house. Currently I’m only feeding them chick starter feed. However, I’m wondering when it might be appropriate to offer them treats like mealworms or a bit of apple. Thoughts on this?

I offered mine plugs of sod from my yard. They went nuts scatching in it and eating tiny pieces of grit.
They also got broken up mealworms.
Yours are old enough to offer chick grit. They will need that to help process the treats in case you can't dig up did clumps because of frozen ground.

I like the advice above. Personally, my chicks get nothing but chick starter feed (assuming they are hatched and raised in a brooder) so no need for grit. Diet variation is something that I personally leave until later and its purpose is to ensure that i can condition the flock to return to their run when i wish. We all manage our flocks differently :)
