Treats for quail

I treated my quails to yogurt with blueberries, they were weary of it at first, as they didn't know what to make of the honey jar lid and yogurt, until I put mealworms on it. After that they all pretty much dove into it, even the broody hen left to get a nibble! Rex is the most tame around me, while the girls are more skittish, so I only took 2 pics of Rex eating so the females could get some too.

I had a teaspoon of yogurt non-flavoured, 4 blueberries and a small scoop of mealworms. The blueberries also act as enrichment, as they have to work to get into them.

Their usual feed is also gamebird layers pellets and oyster grit with foreign finch feed and Niger seeds mixed in. Spoiled little birds.

We feed our 20 week olds all kinds of clover, sprouts, sunflower seeds, millet, quinoa, amaranth, rye flakes, oats, chia, flax. They also love berries of all kinds and especially sweet potato.

Mine really like cat dry cat food. I only tried the idea since its high in protein and its really cold here. They eat that before they eat their regular food.

My quail eat ANYTHING. LOL At first they were leary of things like corn, squash, broccoli, cabbage, yogurt, carrots, etc.... Now, it's eat first, ask questions later! It took repetitive feedings of things for them to gain the courage to try it. (they always get a sampling of the goodies I feed to my chickens) Your quail have no idea if what you are offering is poisonous so they eat what is familiar. But deep down inside they crave everything. And once one of them becomes brave enough to try spmething, the others will follow.
