Treats in hot weather

I just give it to them after I cut it up, you can do frozen if you want to but they’ll love it no matter what(at least mine do) 😁

Yeah mine love watermelon no matter what. On the hot humid days we have here my coons and my chicks go nuts over it frozen. Doesn't take much for me to freeze a melon or berries in my shop fridge to spoil all my girls. I grow watermelon, blackberries, strawberries, and blueberries.

Wow, do you sell to the public? Anywhere near SE Arkansas?

I freeze veggie and fruit scraps in big blocks of ice (using a container that mixed salad greens come in) for those wicked hot days. We both work 12s or 24 hour shifts so I worry on really hot days something will malfunction, we won't catch it for awhile and they wont have access to water. They have deep shade under their coop and in a corner of the run so I just slide the container under there. The block of ice slowly melts and they keep pecking/drinking water as they attempt to get the scraps out. Doesn't take a lot of effort on my part for the peace of mind.

I haven't in the past. Right now my strawberries are over, the blueberries are thinning out, my watermelons are still green, and the tame blackberries are still a small bramble. I got tons of wild blackberries but you can find them anywhere down here (I'm in Rison).

My flock loves frozen watermelon ( i just give them the extra pieces) frozen corn or peas as well. I always make sure I give them fresh COLD water when it gets to the hottest part of the day (usually around 1 pm). I turn a large fan on in their coop for more airflow while they are laying their eggs. My flock has PLENTY of shade. When I go out to water my garden, I spray some water on the ground, they love to walk over it, it helps cool down their feet, and they drink it. :)

My wife does frozen grapes sometimes split sometimes not and the watermelon from fridge or freezer but really any melon. Cantaloupes we grow are prob their favorite.

Following.... i noticed mine were panting alot today. I wet the dirt in the run hoping it would cool them down. I also cut up some tomatoes and put it in a ice tray to freeze. 🤷‍♀️ i will give that to them in a bit.

I would just half them and freeze them. On mushy stuff i find the larger stays colder longer before the chickens just mush it in the dirt.
