Treats that are NOT treats

This was fresh. From a round steak. Some fat, some meat and some marrow. (I remembered the piece when I saw it in the scraps and found the marrow bone the next day picked completely clean.) Apparently they liked it!

Mine treat raisins in the same way that they treat bugs or worms -- they hold it in their beak and run around cheeping like mad almost like "I got it! I got it! I got it!" -- which, of course, raises the attention of all the other chicks, who give chase and try to take it from them.

It's quite fun to watch!

I brought my 4-day old chicks some mashed boiled egg yolk today, and they raced to the dish with loud, glad peeps and gobbled and celebrated. I felt like a master chef or something

I've heard some people suggest to never feed chickens eggs because you are encouraging eggs eaters. What do you think? I was told this when I mentioned giving egg shells to my hens.

My chickens eat eggs all the time if therebcooked ans shells are smashed the chickens don't know there eggs

Potatoes- Whats wrong with them? Sure its cooked, i understand non-cooked, but it just says potatoes

We also gave our chickens a BIG OL' bucket of pink yogurt (not sure of flavor...) and they LOVED it and were wonderfully happy for the week the bucket sat out

Am I missing something or most of the items on the list just items not to be fed in larger quantites ?

Oh and

We give our chickens raw eggs. I just throw them on the ground breaking them and they go WILD ! Yes, we did have egg eaters but it was during winter, we broke them, and now I'm feeding the same egg eater hen raw eggs and shes doing just fine with not eating. And our pullet oleo who SHOULD be laying but isn't eats lots of eggs and egg shells.

So can they have superworms? with the yogurt thing is greek yogurt okay? It is plain greek yogurt.

The reason they don't want you to give "Super Worms" or "King Worms," which are, as I am assuming, they very large variety of meal worms to your birds is because:


They have large mandibles that can pierce through your chicken's crop or damage their stomach.




I'm sure cutting off the King Worm/ Super Worm's heads or killing them first (I crushed or removed their heads when I had them as treats once) will do the trick.
