Trees

I love trees also. I have a Russian olive that when it blooms in spring I think I died and went to heaven. Have you ever SMELLED a Russian Olive? Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh

Most of the trees on my property I personally planted, and most are for wildlife. I planted a sugarberry at LEAST seven years ago. I'm still waiting for the fruit. Not for me, for the birds. I also have an everbearing mulberry and a Washington Hawthorne for the birds. A while back I got some seedlings for some Buffaloberry shrubs which I am training to standard, or tree form. I have 3 scarlet oaks which have awesome acorns for wildlife. I had planted Amur maples, which were supposed to be good for wildlife, but I'm sorry I planted them. I see no value for wildlife other than nesting. I also have a couple of crabapples. One of them I didn't plant, the birds did. I figured if the birds liked it enough to eat it, I would let it grow. Oh, and I almost forgot about the wild chokecherry that the birds also planted and I let it grow.

Trees are fantastic. I reckon they don't only do good for wildlife and the environment.... but let's just say: Australia in the summer without shade?

I would die.

I'va also got a multitude of fruit trees in the garden: I LOVE picking loquats during late summer each year! They are the sweetest fruits I think I've ever eaten!

trees. I wish we had more around here..one day I want to buy land with lots of trees so I could be surrounded by them. I especially love the redwoods and sequoias. They are so majestic and awe-inspiring - they make my neck hurt as I try to see their tops, not to mention how old some of them are.

How cool to see a koala in a tree!!! We love trees too!!! We have gotten plum and apple trees from Arbor Day and they are doing fantastic! They sent us a silver leaf maple that is just growing by leaps and bounds. We have a golden rain tree ? still in a pot but doing ok since it was a twig with no leaves when it first came, and a beautiful hydrangea bush that makes the most gorgeous pom poms!!! I don't know what we would do without our sycamores, sweet gums, oaks, and pines here all around our place for shade. Seriously the Texas heat can be dry and brutal at times and sitting on the porch under the trees can be 15 degrees cooler than out in the side yard with no trees. They truly can make a world of difference.

I currently want to plant some more in our yard, but my dad doesn't want to.

And that annoys me because I grew up as a little kid and just moved from a place where my yard was covered in them. Big 'ol California oaks...And where we live it's tree country, really. I don't see why not we can't plant more, it won't take much of the light from the house. I think I might die in the summer without any more trees...

Sorry for the mini-rant. I just like my trees a little too much.

oooohhh!! I planted a loquat tree here about 6ish years ago - I love it. We are nearly too cold for it here in zone 7 - so it isn't supposed to produce fruit

but I planted it on the south side of a building (for some protection) and hope it defies the cold - even more now that you said this

(have you ever tried honey loquat syrup?)

Our yard was stripped of most trees. We plant trees. The neighbors yards are full of beautiful trees and I hear the chainsaw often. I too have added HUGE tree requirement for the next home.

Love trees here too. We live on 50 acres and none of it is clear except for the area around the house. And we still plant more. One maple I must caution you about planting, for those who love maples, is the Norway Maple. Non- native and will seed itself just about anywhere. Fast grower so it takes over where a native one might grow. And when you see 'Red Maple' at the nursery, make sure it isn't Acer Platinoides (Norway) but the native Acer Rubrum (Red Maple).
