Just let the dogs out to run. 4:30 in the morning & it's so humid you can barely breathe. Sorry to whine...I'm just so over this weather. As I pass the turkey pen Daisy does that quiet little trill from her roost. Besides my first cup of coffee...that's the best thing about early mornings!!

While driving up to Missouri this afternoon I was listening to the news. Reporter was interviewing someone doing rescues in the Carolinas. She asked about the pet rescues...seems there are quite a few. He told the story of a woman who wouldn't evacuate because she didn't want to leave her chickens! Apparently it was getting so bad she called for help. Guy said they agreed to rescue her flock too! I had visions of being in an evacuation boat with a turkey under each arm. Sadly, I wouldn't evacuate without them....

R2elk....that's a scary story. Watched a lot of the fire coverage this summer, it was heartbreaking. I don't know if I would have the guts to stay. I'd be the one evacuating with two turkeys in the passenger seat.

Still in Missouri. Heading home today. Was up here for our annual History Conference. It's always informative. (Yeah I'm that kind of nerd) Meanwhile, back at the coop, all birds have been misbehaving for their sitter. It's really the chickens that act like little jerks. However, Annie got upset over a pair of red tennis shoes and then over a red tee shirt. I keep telling not to wear red. She thought I was overstating the situation. Annie, already grumpy over her molt, proved me correct. Daisy doesn't care what someone wears. But Annie is sensitive to such things. Funny how different those two birds are. And my friends think I'm nuts when I discuss the difference in their personalities.

I do know them....so well, I can tell when they are ready to lay an egg. And their different moods. Still finding their behavior interesting. There is more to turkeys than a pile of pretty feathers. Sigh....I will admit I spend too much time with the girls. I spend a lot of time outside & usually they are "helping" me with chores. So we spend a lot of time together.

Back home. My whole molting grumpy flock was a huge pain for my sitter. Went & sat with them a bit. All were sweet as pie. Daisy was even trilling. Shes starting to grow a tail. It's really spotty this year. Quite nice. Annie is tailless right now.
