Ralph, I've had sick or injured chickens in the house too. These birds live in houses full time. Just didn't realize folks did that....

Yeah...I've had issues trying to get the turkey girls lay in nests. Daisy does seem to use the lean-to in the pen. Annie will just drop it anywhere in the pen. If she happens to be free ranging and has to lay she crams herself in a chicken nest box.

Annie is pretty casual about laying. Daisy is a huge drama queen. Lots of pacing & fussing. If she is free ranging I usually just put her back in the pen. If I don't she tends to want to jump fences. She has PES...Pre Egg Syndrome!

Charmed...I believe turkeys can handle REALLY cold weather. They do in the wild. I don't add heat to my chicken coop nor will I to the turkey coop/pen. Its rare, but it can occassionally get down into the teens here. Normally we hoover in the 40's and maybe 30's at night. The problem we have is humidity. Makes if feel a lot colder. A bigger problem for me is the summer heat.

Genetics are so interesting. I keep going back to the calculator and plugging in my Slate & Bourbon Red with different toms. Possibilities are endless! But honestly I thing if I get a tom it will be a Slate. I hate just having the two hens. If something were to happen to one I can just picture a crying upset lonely hen. So....that's my excuse for adding another turkey!

I hope Turkules doesn't end up "hen pecked" with all his girls! :D I can't remember, is Turkules a Bronze? Have you used the Porters calculator to determine what kinds of babies he could produce? I've been obsessed with it since I finally figured it out. However, I got completely lost with the different types of Slates. But thanks to R2elk I think I'm starting to understand them better. I still can't figure out what type of Rusty Blue Lilac Lavender Tan Slates Ralphie has.

Aurora. ...we need an update on Adam!
