The avian vet called me today about using Daisy as a demo bird. Plans to show vets & vet techs how to properly restrain a bird, including holding the head & getting the beak open. Look down her throat. So they don't shoot meds into her lungs. Check a vent. Check for being egg bound. How to set wings & legs. How to tube. Pretty basic things. Asked if I could give her treats so her crop is full. He said he's got lots of slides but would like folks to get their hands on a bird & feel around. Nothing invasive. All in an attempt to get local vets to see fowl for basic issues. He expects about 10-15 folks. Explained Daisy is pretty laid back. And a lapper. Explained to him how we classify temperament. He thought that was pretty cool. So we are going! I may learn something!

Your right about Holm....now I'd buy a calendar filled with those guys pictures!

Your right about mornings. Best time of the day. Already watered, taking a coffee break. Both turkey hens are perched on the back railing looking in the window. Starting tonight it's not going below 80 at night. That's tough when it stays so warm at night. Doesn't give the girls much of a break from the heat. I start worrying about my older birds in this heat.

Hey...my old SS layer her weekly egg yesterday. Saw her come out of the coop last night. She ran over to me & did her egg song standing at my feet...guess she wanted to be sure I knew she wasn't slacking!

Just read this on one of my news feeds. Guy in Oregon stole a bike outside of Walmart. Bikes owner & several other folks were running after him. Guy gets his horse out of a trailer, trots after the thief & ropes him around the ankle. There is a picture of the thief on the ground with his arms around a tree, rope on this ankle being held taunt by the guy on his horse. Cowboy says he ropes cattle for a living...no big deal. How cool is this?

Feedman....that keet is so tiny next to its big moma.

I'm still chuckling over Feisty's hen crawling under Big Bird. That and R2elk's hen running the turkey off her nest. Hey, maybe that's the way to break a broody turkey....stuff a broody hen under her! Feisty....find one of those growling broody hens & stuff her under Big Bird...ya never know! :gig. Heck, nothing else has worked. ...

Speaking of broodies...neither of mine have gone broody. (Knock on wood)

Ralph...is your English girl protected from rain in that tree? You could always add a little canopy over the opening.

So it's already 80 here at 6 in the morning. Humidity is so bad it feels like your walking into a sauna. I know...I'm just whining.
