Rjohns....sorry about the hen. Bummer.

I've taken my baby Speckled Sussex outside the last few days. They are in one of my dog X-pens. All good. They are enjoying scratching around & taking dust baths. All of my chicken hens totally ignore them. As does Annie. Daisy circled the pen relentlessly. Finally laid down next to it. This morning I let her follow me into it with the babies. I was scared she'd harm them. But she slowly followed them. Again she laid down & they eventually started hopping around on her. She decided to take a snooze. I would never leave them with her unattended. But she sure seems to tolerate them. She's the only hen showing any interest in them. She's such a funny bird.

You called it R2elk....Daisy has claimed my baby Sussex. She's softly talking to them. They were scratching at the dirt & she took her beak & slowly scratched with them. She let them hop on her again. And demonstrated the water dish. She's very cautious moving around them. After about 15 minutes I tried to get her out of their little pen. No go...had to pick her up & haul her off. Was hoping a chicken would take an interest. Oh well. Just as well it's Daisy....she's so laid back & level headed.
