R2elk is right! I don't need to breed birds. My turkeys hens are just big pets! Mine are city girls. We go for walks, they come when I call them, they love settling down in my lap for a nap. I can even get Daisy to go through a dog agility course. I don't feel guilty eating their eggs. All good....

We are back to 100 heat index. Both girls are down to one tail feather each. They are looking pretty ratty! Even so, we took a walk yesterday evening. Little worried the neighbors won't understand the molt thing & will turn me in for perceived turkey abuse.

Broody Bunch Baby is sure an interesting color/ pattern.

Heat indexes still over 100 here. Not one bird in my flock....chicken or turkey....currently has any tail feathers. They are all a mess. Annie decided to display and she looked like a porcupine! Nothing but quills. Daisy still sits on my chair arm, but no touching allowed. They are all miserable.

Do any of you feed extra protein while they are growing out new feathers? If so...what?

Aurora...maybe they do get stiff. I just figured when she hopped off the roost she twisted her little ankle or something. I'm surprised they don't wrench their necks working through those quills. Poor Daisy...when I sit out there, she just stands & stares. Won't even let me touch her snood. But I talk to her & she listens. Maybe....who knows.
