Guess the good thing about our prolonged heat is there are still a lot of green munchables available for the girls. And little bugs in the grass for hunting. Both ate their fill on our stroll last night. AND its acorn season! Get a lot falling in my driveway. I step on 'em & the girls are standing by to eat 'em. Yes, they are spoiled....I step on them & crack them open. It's like popping bubble wrap!

Rjohns....the inbound hurricane is veering east of us....are you going to catch some of the rain?

Cuddles new feathers are amazing! Shes just beautiful! The boys look great! Especially Romeo!!

Got a flu shot today. Got home and my coonhound couldn't keep his big nose off the spot where I got the shot. Life with a professional nose....sigh....

Still waiting for Daisy to finish growing feathers. Shes actually still molting in odd places. Annie looks like a weird red porcupine. Daisy's snood is covered in tiny, tiny, almost fuzzy feathers. Annie's is not. Do most hens have fuzzy snoods??

What a shame. But I think your wise to buy one Aurora.
Brrrrr... its 54 this morning! It never got out of the 70's yesterday. Birds are loving it. Daisy was flapping & flying before bedtime. Shes the only bird in my flock who flies. My chickens are to fat & Annie never tries. I'm beginning to wonder if Daisy is showing off.

I have to admit...its cool to see her fly. Big blue blob hurling through the air.

I actually finally turned off my air conditioning yesterday. Bout time!!

Had the girls out for a stroll. Their sitter wandered over. ( she lives a few doors down) She yelled hello to them. They both quit grazing & came over to hang out. Its interesting how they remember & know certain people. Another neighbor pulled his truck over to chat. There we stood, me & the sitter, with two turkeys straining their necks up trying to see inside the truck.

Daisy is still losing feathers. Her tail is in & Annie's tail is almost grown out. Both are still a bit grumpy tho....

Drizzling rain here for three days. Our high was 52...I froze all day. Got home and had to dig out some socks and long jeans. Still been wearing tee shirts, shorts & crocks up till today. Girls were sopping wet. Daisy was hopping & flapping....at least shes happy with this weather. Turned on my heat to take the chill off. Sure was hoping for some nice fall weather....oh well.

On another front...its cooled off enough to start up coonhound training again. Oh boy....

Didn't take the girls for a stroll tonight. Felt so bad....they were standing at the gate ready to go. Hate to disappoint them, but just too soggy for me. I herded them to the coop under protest! They had a few choice "words" for me...it was non-stop Put-Put-Put.

She is getting big Aurora! It will be fun to see what she ends looking like!

R2elk....that blue Slate's beard is impressive! Daisy chewed Annie's off. Annoying bird!
There isn't anything funnier than a one feathered turkey tail? I think not! Those palms are stunning! Even with one tail feather.
Got home, Daisy was sitting on my back porch rail. Guess she flew over the fence. She was just preening away. Poor Annie was pacing the fence line. No idea what made Daisy head to the house. She never explains herself!

Beautiful bunch of turkeys Molpet. Between y'all, mine are so boring!

Killed a opossum tonight. Heard coonhound screaming in the yard. There he was, spread eagle on my wood privacy fence, head thrown back screaming his lungs out. ( neighbors love us!) Big ears just waving in the wind. Had a opossum frozen on top of the fence. I got a broom & wacked him (not the hound, the opossum) in the head. Thought he'd fall on the other side of the fence. Nope. Landed at coonhounds feet. (I'm sure hound thought a miracle had just occurred!) Hound didn't hesitate, broke his neck immediately. Let him shake it a few minutes. Then wrestled it away & disposed of the body. I think I concussed it and it may have been knocked out or even dead. I teed off on it. Young coonhound is all amped up. Walking on tip toes! So weird how this dog is the sweetest, gentlest, lazy-ish guy until it comes to hunting. Just love hearing to his voice. Its like music. Sure the neighbors aren't as appreciative. So, one more potential fowl predator down!
