Is it possible to 'trick' a duck hen into brooding? I have 3 more Scovy eggs today and have 3 in here. I was going to put them back in the coop to see if anyone would set but wasn't sure if it would work... anyone tried this?

Ive heard of people putting out fake eggs to trick their ducks into brooding but not real eggs.

I wonder if i put fake eggs out there if I cna trick my ducks into laying??? lol

No, there are domestic breeds that tend to go broody more than others but it is mostly hormonal instincts that cause broodiness.

I put fake eggs in my ducks' nests. I do it to get them to lay in the same place each day. They don't like it when I take their eggs and will find a new place to lay if I don't keep a few fake eggs in the nest. It hasn't caused them to become broody.

I have Buff ducks that free range and when I find a nest and leave it, they usually start setting after they get about 15 -20 eggs in the nest, so maybe if you put a bunch of eggs in the nest, they may start setting or leave the eggs and let them fill the nest themselves and they may set then.

I wish there was a way to STOP ducks from being broody. Ming Mei has been broody for almost two weeks despite taking away all the eggs every day. The nest never got bigger than maybe 8-10 eggs when she got broody.

LOL!

What I think Is hilarious is when My ducks have found a place they like to lay, I leave the egg in there for two - three days to make sure thats where they wanna set then I place more eggs under her. ANd then she just look so smug Like "Oh, I did that? Well Look at me!" Lol

I have one duck who is an egg HOE! I mean I have to make sure she is nesting in one of the dog houses because is she starts nesting int he Box she takes everyone elses eggs and rolls them under her. At least she is a good mama though
