tried the cabbage dangle yesterday

My fault because my words got in the way . . . your signature just made it too easy for me to question in a too cavalier manner what you had to say and even think that it might be okay.

Sorry,

Steve

Well, those chickens got over their fear of the unknown purple monster and decimated it in short order. And, the poop in the coop is a strange frightening hue, LOL. But it won't last long.

I would have loved to see that!

Today I happily cored out three apples and tied a sting to them and hung them in the coop. It was so fun to watch the girls and boys swinging them around. They were really excited. We had a blizzard a couple of days ago and they are afraid to go into the snow so they are "cooped" up for the time being.

Loads of things,

Boiled rice is fun too, as long as there is no salt, I cook it without salt for my dog who has a very sensitive stomach, and I gave them a small part that was left over, they loved it, and were chewing the goo off each other's beaks, they love sunflower seeds, and other seeds too, and yogurt is excellent, led to them attacking anything white with gusto, my jumpers are not safe any more, they peck at them... lol....

But I mainly give them things like vegetables that can be hung up and give them some fun too, celery is good, spinach. I have given them left over porridge that also has nothing in it, and tomatoes, and fruit....

Just a variety to add a bit of interest and exploration....lol...

Just have some fun watching them, and trying to make sure they are not stuck with boring old pellets all the time. they really like a slice of bread that I hold onto and they tear pieces off it and then chase each other to take the excess. plus it is encourgang them to trust me.

Have fun with your girls,

Jena.

I have a big plastic green bowl that I put all veggies and fruit scraps into and throw out to the chickens, and I buy 2 to 3 heads of cabbage a week for them, but I have always cut it up in small pieces and threw out all over the ground for them
not any more, I'm hanging it up (which I can't wait to see them look at it at first)
when they see me coming with the bowl, they start going crazy to get to me first

I was wondering ---- "they" say dont give our chicks garlic or onions cuz it will make the eggs taste funny. Cabbage seams like it would give the eggs a funny taste too. Wouldn't you think so????
