So i have 2 dog crates (med size) that i was planning on moving my broodies into, to keep the rest of the chickens from laying in their nests. The Silkie was fine, she fretted for a moment but settles down on her eggs. The D'uccle was a totally different story. She went nuts!!! Running back in forth in the crate, squacking up a storm! I showed her the eggs, she steppeddright over them. After about 10 minutes i opened the crate. She ran right to the nest she had been in, almost in a panic! So i put her eggs back, she settled right back on them. Looked at me as if to say, I can take care of my babies just fine out here!!!!
