I have an early external pip! @john_wrightson2003 it's one of your BA!
It's chirping!

Also, since it is early. (lock down starts today!) Is there anything I should be concerned about, or keep an eye on? I've been following a drying incubation method, so it's been in considerably lower humidity than the lockdown period would be. I just want to give the little ones the best chance that I can. Thank you for any advice!

You started this thread Wednesday July 24. Which means today is day 20 if this was one of those original eggs. When did you think you needed to lock down? Usually it's day 18-19.

I know other eggs got added later. Which eggs are left?
Well, hats off on catching that one! :clap I'm not being sarcastic either, I had to go back and recount myself.

Lockdown should have started yesterday, but I was starting it today due to the other eggs being added later. (suggested by a member not posting in this thread)

I'm not sure how much this has to do with it, but the eggs are started in the evening time. As far as the 24-hour clock is considered, it's day 19. Or at least that's what the countdown says.

In regards to what day I thought lockdown started, that would be 18. The only thing I know to be sure right now, is this has been a learning experience, and one I don't think is over yet.

Wow, that's so awesome, I love it so much when my customers tell me when they've pipped or hatched! :pop:love

I'm not familiar with that incubator/countdown timer. All I can think is that maybe it counts down to 1 not 0 as your hatch day. I gave up using the one on my incubator after the first hatch. I find it easiest to note your hatch day (same day of the week you started). The count backwards from that.

If you started your hatch in the evening, in theory, you should have most your hatching in the evening. That's been true for me with my larger hatches (2-3 dozen). I used this to my advantage when incubating/hatching for my daughter's Girl Scout troop animal badge. We had a chick zip and hatch during their meeting!!! The girls loved it. And I looked like a hatching guru (which I'm totally not!). Time of day also comes into play with early candling (Day 1-7). Those extra few hours are huge early on.

I don't think the advice to hold off on lock down was bad advice. No one realized it was actually day 20. If I'm not going to be home I'll lock down early. Unless you have an egg that you're concerned has not lost enough to moisture. Those need all the time they can with the lower humidity.

Guru or not, that's pretty awesome!

I think with this next batch, I'll be starting them in the morning. I didn't really think about that in the beginning.
