2022 Cubalaya cockerel, he was hen hatched and raised, and in this instance was 100% free range in that the building that they roosted in was not closed up for the night. They were never confined to where they couldn't come and go as they pleased. His mother is very intelligent and had them roosting up off the ground as soon as they were able too.
He is the epitome of health.

1. He looks great to my uneducated eyes.

2. How do raccoons, etc not get them at night? The dog?

You structure needs to be clad in steel. Like some of the newer pole barns are.
The roost needs to be high enough so the coons can't jump up and get them. If you have coyotes or dogs the roosting bar should be a minimum of ten feet high, preferably 12 feet.

Full brother cockerels 9 months old. Notice the differences and similarities. The parents were not related to each other at all.

Captain the pup, is spending time with his charges, the goats.
Ruby is the goat mother, the kid doesn't have a name yet.
Ruby isn't so sure that Captain should be close to her kid and yet he has never in any way tried to harm it. I appreciate Ruby's attentiveness to that, it proves she has good mothering instincts.

Here Ruby is a bit more relaxed as she looks in the direction Captain is looking. Captain is a Cur.
