Troyergals Chat Thread!!!

So, two questions.
Do you not have to milk goats at all, or is it only some breed you can? And, what's a Brush goat?

You only have to milk goats if you take their kids away, if you take their kids away and don't milk then their udder will swell and get infected and usually ends up in mastitis. You don't have milk if you leave the kids on since that's the reason they're producing milk, for their young. Some breeds milk better than others, it's like chickens, you wouldn't take a meat breed, like the Boer, and milk it but you wouldn't want a small dairy breed, like a nigerian dwarf, for meat either. There are some dual purpose breeds like the Nubian as well.

What I call a Brush goat is a goat that isn't pure bred but is a mix of a whole lot of breeds and is bred to do really well with very little supplemented feed, pretty much live off the underbrush. Thus the name, brush goat.

It's almost done, just have to put the coop part together. (My older brother did 98% of the work...) I think he said it was 6' wide and 21' long.
